Code Refactoring
- android: the Java package is com.fastimage (#1259) (7cc9685)
- remove fallback, and onProgress's progress comes from the native views (#1260) (cb15524)
Features
- android: images an app loads with Glide itself use React Native's OkHttp client (#1277) (cbc06a0)
- FastImage is a single native view, without children (#1262) (45875b7)
- images fade in by default on Android, and FastImage.setDefaults changes it (#1261) (a086631)
- native New Architecture component, React Native 0.83+ (#1220) (5473320)
- objectPosition prop (CSS object-position) (#1298) (07f3e0b)
- remove resizeMode in favor of objectFit (#1299) (88ec915)
BREAKING CHANGES
resizeMode(prop and style) is removed and ignored;
objectFitreplaces it (stretch→fill,center→scale-down,
containandcoverunchanged). Tiling (repeat) is no longer
supported.overlayColoris removed fromImageStyle(it had no
effect).- android: on Android, images an app loads with Glide itself (a
GlideUrl) go through React Native's OkHttp client, with the app's
interceptors and cookies, and 15 s connect and read timeouts where the
client has none, instead of the default client of Glide's OkHttp
integration. An app's own AppGlideModule can still register another. - FastImage is a single native view: it doesn't render
children (use FastImageBackground for content over an image; children get a
type error and a development error), its ref is the native view, and Jest
snapshots show one FastImageView element. - On Android, images fade in by default (300 ms, as with React
Native's Image); iOS doesn't change. FastImage.setDefaults({ transition:
false }) keeps 9.x's behavior. transition={null} now means the default, not
no fade. - The fallback prop is removed: images always load with
FastImage's native views (a fallback prop is ignored, with a warning in
development). Use React Native's Image directly for images that need it. - android: FastImage's Android package is com.fastimage (was
com.dylanvann.fastimage). Autolinked apps need no change; an app that adds
FastImageViewPackage by hand, imports FastImage's classes, or keeps its own
ProGuard rules for them (FastImage ships its own) needs the new name.
FastImageProgressListener is removed. - FastImage is a native New Architecture component and
TurboModule. It needs React Native 0.83 or later (New Architecture only;
apps on older React Native or the legacy architecture can stay on FastImage
9), Expo SDK 55 or later, iOS/tvOS 15.1, Android API 24 (compileSdk and
targetSdk 36 by default), SDWebImage 5.21.4 or later on iOS (runpod update SDWebImageif Podfile.lock has an older one), and Glide 5 by
default on Android (5.0.7; glideVersion 4.15 or later still works). The
native module is now the TurboModule FastImageModule
(NativeModules.FastImageView is gone); otherwise the JS API is unchanged.
