OpenPhotoId 0.1.4 for macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel), Windows and Android.
Windows: this build is not code-signed and has not been tested on Windows. It is built from the same source as the macOS and Android apps, which were tested, but nobody has installed or run this installer on a Windows PC yet. Windows SmartScreen may say "Windows protected your PC"; choose More info, then Run anyway.
What's new since 0.1.1
Documents (all platforms)
- 25 documents from 16 countries and the EU. New: the Schengen visa, the India online visa, and the Türkiye, Poland and Nigeria passports, each with the official page its rules come from. "European Union · Passport" is gone: the EU issues no passport, and the entry was the German missions' visa photo rule, which the Schengen visa now carries.
- Documents that refuse an edited photo keep your own background. The UK, Singapore, Chinese, US, Canadian and South Korean passports, India's Passport Seva photo and the DV Lottery start on Leave as it is, and the app checks the background you took the photo against. Replacing it shows a warning, and the result is at best "Passes, with cautions". These documents offer no skin smoothing or drawn clothes, and Before you submit shows their rule.
- India's printed passport photo follows the mission page it cites: the face 70–80% of the photo, and clear, thin-framed prescription glasses allowed. Türkiye has a notice that photocopies and photos reproduced on a computer are not accepted.
Checks
- A twelfth check, Glasses: sunglasses always fail; ordinary glasses are judged by the document's own rule.
- A second face at the edge of the picture is counted, and fails Face count.
- Background is measured on the background the separation found, instead of reporting that there was nothing to sample.
- The Position sliders and the checklist use the same figures.
- A head cut off at the top of the photo fails Head height, and a photo whose edges had to be filled asks for a retake with your shoulders and some space above your head in the frame.
Formal clothes
- Your own top is found in the photo by telling skin, hair and clothes apart, and covered completely: a jacket over a T-shirt, a patterned top, a hood or collar raised beside the jaw, and the T-shirt's neckline inside the drawn collar.
- The garment's top edge follows a smooth shoulder and neckline curve with a soft edge. Shirt and Blouse have an outline, so a white shirt shows on a white background.
- A top the same colour as your hair can still show, and a thin coloured line can remain where the top meets the jaw.
Soften skin starts at zero for every photo and is not remembered from one photo to the next. Sharpen for printing and Extra edge detail start off for documents that refuse an edited photo.
Desktop app (macOS and Windows)
- The same photo pipeline as the web and Android apps, so every fix above reaches the desktop too, with Soften skin, Formal clothes and the Background choice.
- Check for updates, a button in the header with the running version beside it. Updates come from this project's releases and install only when signed with the project's update key. 0.1.1 has no update check, so moving to 0.1.4 is one manual download; from 0.1.4 on, updates arrive through the button.
- Account opens https://openphotoid.com/#/account in your browser.
- A photo can be opened with the app:
OpenPhotoId photo.jpg, Windows' "Open with", or "Open With" in the macOS Finder.--document <id>(for example--document uk-passport) picks the document.
Android
- Account opens https://openphotoid.com/#/account.
- Recently used names each document's country, for example "Canada — Passport".
- A second save under the same name is still a JPEG (
canada-passport (1).jpg).
- Download all (ZIP) saves one ZIP, with each photo named after its original file.
- Documents covered fits a phone screen, refusing camera access says where to allow it, and a document opened from a link offers Take a photo as well as Choose a photo.
Updating from 0.1.1
The app's identifier changed in this cycle, from com.openapps.openphotoid to com.openphotoid.app.
- Android: this APK cannot update 0.1.0 or 0.1.1; installing it gives you a second OpenPhotoId app. Uninstall the old one afterwards (press and hold its icon, App info, Uninstall). Photos you saved stay in your gallery and in Files; the list of recently used documents starts empty. It does install over the 0.1.3 and 0.1.4 release candidates as an update.
- macOS: drag the new app into Applications and let it replace the old one. Models already downloaded are kept.
- Windows: if Settings → Apps lists OpenPhotoId twice after installing, uninstall the older entry.
Downloads
- macOS 11 or later:
OpenPhotoId_0.1.4_universal.dmg, one app for Apple Silicon and Intel Macs, signed and notarized by Apple. Open it and drag OpenPhotoId into Applications.
- Windows 10 or 11, x64:
OpenPhotoId_0.1.4_x64-setup.exe. Not code-signed, and not tested on Windows. If the computer has no WebView2 runtime, the installer downloads it.
- Android 8.0 or later:
OpenPhotoId-v0.1.4.apk, signed with the project's release key (version code 1009).
latest.json, OpenPhotoId_0.1.4_universal.app.tar.gz and the two .sig files are what the desktop update check reads; you do not need to download them. SHA256SUMS lists the SHA-256 checksum of each file.
