Fixes

• Reject unknown and unsupported video decoder pixel formats before creating the scaler, avoiding a libswscale assertion abort for AV_PIX_FMT_NONE. Both playback and thumbnail loading use the existing failure cleanup paths.
• Preserve supported software pixel formats and full-range YUVJ normalization.

Tests

• Add invalid-format and supported-format regressions, including all four existing YUVJ mappings.
• Verify the function-level assertion fails before the fix and passes afterward using real libswscale. Historical malformed MP4/MOV artifacts were unavailable; no new file-level exploit or memory-corruption claim is made.

Docs & Maintenance

• Refresh pinned GitHub Actions dependencies.
• Update CHANGELOG.md and synchronize all six tracked documentation version references to v1.8.5.

Verification Notes

• Local warning-clean build and full normal test suite pass with EXTRA_CFLAGS=-Werror; tagged binary reports v1.8.5.
• Focused scaler tests pass under ASan/UBSan with leak detection enabled. The prior full sanitizer run encounters an unrelated 4,237-byte MuPDF invalid-book leak also reproduced on unmodified base; full ASan/UBSan passes with leak detection disabled.

This patch release follows v1.8.4. Its native Kitty animation features are not new in this release.

Known Release-Packaging Issue

• Post-publication verification found that the downloaded Linux amd64 binary returns exit 0 but prints only a newline for --version. The Linux CI compile log confirms APP_VERSION was empty. Local tagged builds correctly report v1.8.5. Asset SHA256 checks pass; the published binary version string is not a reliable identifier for this release. This packaging issue remains unresolved; the release tag has not been moved.
