AMD and Vulkan fixes

This update focuses on AMD shader correctness and Vulkan synchronization. These are targeted fixes, not a guarantee that every AMD game or rendering issue is resolved.

  • #273 keeps depth-compare images floating-point and makes failed atomic compare-exchange operations feed their returned value into the next retry. On AMD's proprietary Vulkan driver, fragment shuffles use a broadcast fallback. Driver optimization is disabled only for compute shaders EFF3CCBE1438679D and F9EA14A22394F5B1, which have reported multi-minute compilation stalls.
  • #295 splits misaligned 64-bit and 128-bit storage-buffer accesses into 32-bit words instead of reading or writing the wrong vector. Vulkan barriers now cover indirect dispatch arguments, make compute writes visible to subsequent graphics work, and replace stale wait-for-idle event reuse with a memory barrier.

These changes have compiler, regression-test, and validation evidence. The combined fixes have not been verified in affected AMD gameplay. Shuffle fallbacks and unoptimized shaders can cost runtime performance; stronger synchronization can also change frame times.

Other changes since build 88

  • #284 includes an AV1 decoder in bundled Windows MinGW x86-64 builds, addressing the missing decoder used by Switch 2 movies. This is not a cutscene-audio or haze fix.
  • #290 fixes a lost wake during worker cancellation, including shader-loading cancellation. It does not fix the separate initial Linux shader-loading stall, and in-flight driver calls must still return.
  • #314 seeds a performance profile only when creating a new desktop global configuration: FSR1 softer sharpening, Fast GPU mode, GPU video decoding, asynchronous presentation, and ordinary asynchronous shader compilation. Existing configurations and per-game settings retain their behavior. This does not enable FSR3 frame generation or native asynchronous draw discard.
  • #224 adds optional native draw discard while pipelines compile. EDEN_NX2_ASYNC_DISCARD remains off by default. Enabling it can skip writes to persistent resources and leave missing effects; it is not a general performance recommendation.

Linux switches and desktop reporting

  • #287 packages nx2_switches.txt defaults in Linux tar archives and AppImages. The desktop loader reads embedded defaults, then the file beside the resolved AppImage, then the user's configuration file. Actual environment variables take precedence. This addresses ignored switches, not the initial shader-loading hang.
  • #303 adds opt-in desktop compatibility reports. After playing and stopping a Switch 2 game, right-click it and choose Submit compatibility report. Only the latest session in the current process is eligible. Confirm the matching website catalog game, review the public preview, and explicitly consent before submitting.

The reporter prefills editable build, machine, game version, graphics, launch settings, and enabled mod/update names where available. Title metadata, including NUP package titles, helps catalog search; NUP display-version metadata supplies the loaded package version. Search preserves literal punctuation and Unicode. Compatibility ratings and progress remain your judgment. Nothing is uploaded automatically, and native v1 never reads or uploads logs or files.

Limits and credits

AMD black textures, haze, HUD flicker, cutscene audio, and the initial Linux loading stall remain open investigations. These notes do not claim those symptoms are all fixed, and no universal FPS improvement is promised.

Thanks to mja00 (Matt Artist), jpkto, persluffy-cl, and jonmakegames for the shader fixes adapted in #273; Matt Artist, Selevet, and sharkiix for the alignment and synchronization sources credited in #295; Duck912 for Eglantine #675, ported in #284; and BrunoSilvestre00 for #224. The linked PRs retain the detailed source attribution and verification limits.

All four standard platform build jobs passed. The workflow was then canceled because an optional PGO job stalled during dependency installation. These packages come from the completed standard jobs; no rebuild was needed. Only standard builds are included in this release.

Downloads and installation

Linux

The AppImages are self-contained and require glibc 2.39 or newer, such as Ubuntu 24.04, Fedora 40, Debian 13, or Arch. The tar.gz packages use system libraries and require Qt 6 and the usual runtime libraries.

Architecture Downloads Installation
x86_64 AppImage · tar.gz Make the AppImage executable with chmod +x, then run it
aarch64 AppImage · tar.gz Make the AppImage executable with chmod +x, then run it

Windows

Windows x86_64 MSVC ZIP: extract the entire archive and run lichii.exe, or eden-cli.exe from a terminal.

macOS

Apple Silicon ZIP · DMG

Requires macOS 15 or newer. The app is not notarized: right-click and choose Open the first time, or run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine lichii.app. With the DMG, drag lichii.app to Applications. eden-cli is inside the app under Contents/MacOS.
