- Meru Pro: Chrome extension support, marked Experimental, at
Settings… → Extensions. Extensions are off until you turn them on.- Only extensions from Meru's curated catalog can be installed. Each one is reviewed for safety and performance before it's listed, and you can request an extension for review to have it added.
- The catalog starts with 1Password, under Password Managers. It signs you in to your Google account with a saved password or passkey, and generates a new one when you change your password or add a passkey in your Google account's security settings. Meru holds no vault data of its own — 1Password answers from the desktop app you connect it to.
- Extensions are installed from the official Chrome Web Store package, verified before they load, and checked for updates on launch and every three hours. The Check for updates button on the page checks on demand.
- Turning extensions off stops them running without uninstalling them or throwing away the download.
- Show extensions button puts a button in the titlebar that lists your extensions and opens their popups. It's off by default, and you usually won't need it — 1Password's autofill runs in the page, not in the popup.
- Passkey sign-in for Google accounts.
- macOS: Meru Pro lets you add a passkey to your Google account from its security settings inside Meru, then sign in with Touch ID — no password manager extension to install. The passkey is stored in the macOS keychain and bound to your Mac's Secure Enclave, so it never leaves the device. Passkeys held in Chrome, iCloud or on your phone don't work here.
- Windows: Google sign-in now uses Windows' own passkey dialog, so Windows Hello, security keys and your synced passkeys work.
- Meru Pro: Idle tabs can hibernate to give back the memory they hold, at
Settings… → Workspace Apps.- Hibernate idle tabs — Unpinned tabs (default), Selected tabs, or All tabs. A single tab can opt in or out with Hibernate When Idle in its context menu.
- Hibernate after — 30 minutes, 1 hour (default), 3 hours, or 6 hours.
- A hibernated tab keeps its place, title and zoom in the sidebar, and loads again when you click it, back on the page you left with its history intact. The active tab, tabs in their own window, and tabs playing audio are never hibernated.
- Release channels at
Settings… → Updates → Release channel. Stable is the default; Beta gets upcoming features early and asks for confirmation before switching. You can switch back at any time. - Meru Pro: Sidebar as a placement for the launcher and bookmarks at
Settings… → Workspace Apps → Launcher and Bookmarks → Placement, which keeps the sidebar open even when Gmail is your only tab. Auto (the default) and Titlebar are the other two. - Meru Pro: Hide promotional banner at
Settings… → Gmail, on by default, which hides the recommendation banners above the message list such as the Google Workspace upgrade offer. - Google Admin joins the Workspace apps.
- Cut, copy and paste now work in Google Docs' own Edit menu.
Changed
- Verification codes are now copied for you by default, and you choose when at
Settings… → Verification Codes → When to copy. Only when you ask (the default) shows the code in the notification and waits for you to press its Copy button. As soon as it arrives copies it the moment the email lands. The notification shows you the code either way. - Verification codes are now found by a rewritten detector that reads 17 languages and non-Latin scripts — German, Japanese, French, Chinese, Spanish and more — where the old one effectively only understood English.
- Cmd+, on macOS and Ctrl+, on Windows and Linux now open Meru's settings, matching every other app. Gmail's own settings move to Cmd+Shift+, / Ctrl+Shift+,, which is a new shortcut on Windows and Linux.
- NotebookLM is now Gemini Notebook, following Google's rename and its move to
notebook.google.com. Your saved tabs and bookmarks carry over automatically. - A wide pass over the interface: clearer confirmation dialogs for destructive actions, errors that say what to do next, and consistent wording throughout menus, dialogs and notifications.
- macOS: the Window menu keeps Minimize, Zoom and Bring All to Front; on Windows and Linux it's gone, since Minimize was its only item.
Fixed
- Downloads: the download-completed notification and the download history entry were both skipped whenever Open folder when done was on. Turning that setting on or off no longer needs a restart.
- Cancelling the account picker that opens for a
mailto:link no longer fails — with two or more accounts, clicking Cancel threw instead of closing the picker.
