Changed

  • Google Apps are now called Workspace Apps throughout the app — Settings… → Google Apps is now Settings… → Workspace Apps, and the notification option moved along with it. Your existing settings carry over automatically.
  • Pinned Apps are now Launcher Apps and open from a single Workspace Apps launcher in the titlebar instead of one icon per app
  • Always Open in New Window has been replaced by the new Open Behavior option
  • Full Dark Theme is now Extend Dark Theme and has moved from Experimental to Beta.
  • Saved searches moved to the right side of the titlebar and now open in a dropdown instead of a toggled list
  • Download History is no longer buried in Settings — it opens as its own full-width view from View → Downloads (Cmd+Alt+L on macOS, Ctrl+Alt+L on Windows/Linux), matching how the Unified Inbox is presented
  • Ctrl+Tab and Ctrl+Shift+Tab now switch tabs instead of accounts
    • macOS: cycle accounts with Cmd+Shift+] and Cmd+Shift+[
    • Windows/Linux: cycling accounts no longer has a shortcut — select an account directly with Ctrl+1–9 on Windows, Alt+1–9 on Linux
  • Zoom in, out and reset now apply to whichever tab or window is in front instead of every Gmail view at once. Your existing Gmail zoom level is preserved.

Added

  • Meru Pro: Workspace Apps now open as tabs inside the main window instead of always taking over a separate window
    • A vertical tab sidebar appears on the left as soon as a second tab is open, and stays hidden while Gmail is the only tab
    • Gmail is always the first tab and carries its unread count, or a warning icon when the account needs attention
    • Settings… → Workspace Apps → Open Behavior controls how apps open: Tab (default), New Window, or Background Tab
    • Hold Cmd on macOS, Ctrl on Windows/Linux to open a background tab, add Shift for a foreground tab, or hold Shift alone to open a new window
    • Switch tabs with Ctrl+Tab and Ctrl+Shift+Tab, reopen the last closed tab with Cmd+Shift+T on macOS, Ctrl+Shift+T on Windows/Linux
    • Close a tab with middle click or its close button, and drag tabs to reorder them
    • Keep tabs around across restarts by pinning or bookmarking them
      • Pinned tabs sit in their own section above the rest; bookmarked tabs collect in a Bookmarks section at the bottom once closed
      • Closing a pinned or bookmarked tab dims it instead of removing it — click it again to load it back
      • Load on Launch in a pinned tab's context menu decides whether it loads at startup or waits until you open it
      • A pinned or bookmarked tab that was living in its own window comes back in a window
    • Tab context menu with New … Tab, Reload, Duplicate, Move to New Window / Move to Tab, Copy Link, Open in Default Browser, Pin / Unpin, Bookmark / Remove Bookmark, Close, Close Other Tabs and Close Tabs Below. Right-clicking empty space in the sidebar offers Reopen Closed Tab.
    • Move a tab out into its own window and back again — a tab that has been moved out stays in the sidebar with a window badge, and Workspace App windows have a Move to Tab entry in their titlebar menu
    • Settings… → Appearance → Vertical Tabs → Width sets how wide the tab sidebar is
      • Auto (default) switches between narrow and wide based on the open tabs, or pick Narrow or Wide
    • Settings… → Workspace Apps → Persist Zoom remembers each app's zoom level across restarts (on by default). Each app keeps one zoom level, shared by all of its tabs and windows.
  • The titlebar navigation controls gained a reload button that turns into a stop button while a page is loading

Fixed

  • Google Meet's microphone (Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+1) and camera (Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+2) shortcuts not working when more than one Meet window was open, and no longer working at all for the remaining windows after closing one
