diskOS Disco! 2.5.8
Bluetooth fixes for LDAC and AAC headphones (#13), and a less confusing back swipe.
Testing: checked with automatic tests and on a computer. Not yet tried on a Disc with LDAC or AAC headphones
(none at hand). Reports are welcome on issue #13.
Bluetooth
- No more stop a few seconds into a song with LDAC/AAC. Switching to LDAC or AAC renegotiates the Bluetooth link,
and doing that while music played stopped the song after about 6 seconds. Now, when the sound moves to LDAC/AAC
headphones, the music waits until the switch is done and then starts on the final codec. You may hear a second or
two of silence at the start instead. If the switch doesn't happen within 8 seconds, the music plays on SBC. Pressing
Play/Pause yourself ends the wait at once. - No more short dropouts from device searches. Searching for devices shares the Disc's small radio with Bluetooth
audio and caused split-second gaps during playback. While sound goes to your headphones, the Bluetooth page now lists
your known devices without searching; you can still search when you want to.
Navigation
- No back arrow where Back goes nowhere. On Home (the Music screen in Disco and Squash), a back swipe showed the
back arrow although there was nothing to go back to. The arrow now only appears when the swipe will actually do
something, in every theme.
Installing and updating
- Already on diskOS Disco! 1.4.1 or newer? Update from the SD card: download
mq_ui, sign it with your own
keys and copy thediskos-updatefolder to the card (how). Your settings, music and stats stay. - New install? Start from FiiO's stock V2.57 firmware (recommended). Installing over upstream diskOS or
another diskOS build is not supported and can be buggy; restore stock first. See Install. - Windows: Unsupported, but working as intended: confirmed several times by users, installs and SD updates included.
After updating
- Settings > System > About shows 2.5.8.
- The new version starts as a trial: play some music or tap Keep to keep it. If it doesn't start properly,
the Disc goes back to the previous version by itself, or choose Go back.
Technical notes
ui_route_bt no longer resumes at once when an AAC/LDAC upgrade is armed: route_hold_tick plays after the 06b3
upgrade is sent plus 1.5 s settle, or after 8 s on SBC (ui_bt_codec_upgrade_cancel); on-screen transport and a route
change cancel the hold. The codec probe ticks every 0.7 s (was 2 s). The Bluetooth page uses scan_kick (enumerate
known devices, no inquiry) instead of discovery while ui_route_mac() is set. The back-swipe bubble is hidden when
screen_back_leads_nowhere() (Home, empty history, no launcher/overlay open). Test: bt_bulk_favourites_test.py
(route hold). Built with the GCC 11.2 MIPS toolchain; build record in payload/mq_ui.build.json.
