diskOS Disco! 2.5.4
Clearer Display settings, larger Null text and hands-on Immersive controls. Includes every 2.5.4 development patch and the final Squash weather/battery changes, on top of 2.5.3.
Display and efficiency
- Common Display organization across themes: Brightness, Theme, Appearance, Music screen, Standby, Navigation and Layout & extras. Unsupported settings remain visible, disabled, with an explanation. Saved theme preferences are retained.
- Long settings labels wrap instead of continually scrolling.
- Null pauses unnecessary visual timer work outside relevant screens. Visual callbacks skip the fully-off display; clocks refresh on wake and unchanged settings/scan labels avoid repeated updates.
- Battery/status keep-alive and screen-off History recording remain active. No measured battery-life improvement is claimed.
Null
- Larger list and Music text for all four Music font choices, using baked font assets.
- Hold and drag the Music progress bar for a time preview; release to seek. Changing tracks or leaving cancels the pending seek.
Immersive
Under Display → Music screen → Immersive, enable Circular control and choose Duration or Volume. It defaults Off.
- Drag around the artwork clockwise or counterclockwise. Artwork follows your finger and continues from its released angle, including after dragging while paused.
- Duration uses a compact time/total box, holds lyrics while dragging and seeks on release. Track changes and lost touches cancel the seek.
- Volume uses the normal themed overlay, respects the maximum volume and limits writes while dragging. Lyrics continue normally.
- With circular control enabled, use the left-edge Back gesture with feedback. Tap-to-exit is disabled; there is no permanent Back arrow.
- Sensitivity is 25% lower than dev2. Centre crossings re-anchor without a position jump.
- Cover replaces None at the same saved setting value. It rotates like Vinyl and CD, without their decorative layers; lyrics remain optional.
- Lyrics slide upward over 240 ms using cached text snapshots.
Squash and apps
- Weather follows Squash light/dark colours: four forecast pills in two centered pairs above a curved bottom current-weather panel. Tap the city to edit it; hold for automatic location.
- Battery content is centered in Squash and Null, with the arc opening facing down and matching tick/tip positions.
- Shorter Album Roulette, Boomshine and Listening Stats landing descriptions.
Updating and validation
An ordinary SD interface update for existing installs on 1.4.1 or newer. Sign the downloaded mq_ui using your existing keys; see Updating. No configuration reset, experimental DiskOS migration or GIF screensaver is included.
The earlier dev1 build received positive owner reports for smoothness and stability. Focused native Display/idle/navigation regression checks, Null seeking checks during development, actual LVGL light/dark weather/battery and Immersive renders, theme checks and the final MIPS build were used for this release. The newest Immersive and weather changes still need extended physical-device testing. No measured battery, CPU or memory gain is claimed.
