Jangada 0.9.6

Install: ./instalar-linux.sh jangada-0.9.6.fwsc, or the web installer. Same sound as 0.9.4. Replaces 0.9.5.

The second core, safely (#4; the second core found by @keremimo in Melodee and shipped in X0X by @charlesvestal)

The FM-1's chip has two cores. With both, the synth parts are split between them, and the same patch takes about a third less CPU (31% → 21% on our test load). The sound is bit-for-bit the same.

Not every FM-1 can run both cores at the supply it ships with. Some chips misread their RAM and crash. 0.9.5 raised the supply on every unit. After @keremimo's warning that this could damage someone else's chip, 0.9.6 makes it a choice. MENU > 2ND CORE, read at power-on:

  • AUTO (default): both cores at the stock supply. If the second core misreads even once, it's stopped before it runs anything else, the FM-1 carries on with one core, and the setting turns itself to OFF.
  • OFF: one core.
  • BOOST: raises the chip's supply first (core 1.38 V, DC-DC 1.50 V), for units that need it. This is above the chip maker's own profile and the chip's limits are not public: use it at your own risk. On our unit it took the second core from crashing in seconds to a 33-minute session with no errors.

If your FM-1 shows "IT MISREAD: ONE CORE NOW" under 2ND CORE, it's one of the units that needs more supply. It works fine on one core, as it always has. The measurements are in BUILDING.md.
