Smoother fights with a texture pack, faster ultimates at high internal resolutions, and the Japanese voices fixed online.
Updating on Windows: replace every file of the old copy, not only the .exe.
Fixed
- Frame drops with a texture pack. Replacement textures were read from disk in the middle of a frame, the first time a texture appeared and again every time the game reloaded it (hundreds of times in a fight). With a large pack, where your computer can't keep every file in memory, that meant drops from 60 to 35 during ultimates and fast moments. The files are now read in the background, as PCSX2's asynchronous loading does, and the ones already read stay in memory (up to 1 GB). The first time an effect appears, it can show its original texture for a frame or two before the HD one replaces it.
- Japanese voices online. With the second voice set, clashes, transformations and the moves' effects could play an English menu line instead. Goku (End) and Turles Great Ape no longer get mixed up.
- Distance blur at higher internal resolutions now looks as it does on the console. Above 1× it took almost none of the detail out of distant scenery, and leaves showed up as squares.
Faster
- Ultimates and big effects at high internal resolutions. The flash, rays and aura of an ultimate are dozens of full-screen layers. The renderer now does less work for each one, and the screen clear and some copies of the picture take less work too. Tested on an integrated GPU at 4×: 13% less time per frame across fights, 15% in the heaviest ultimates. The picture is the same, checked pixel for pixel. At low internal resolutions the gain is small.
