Spanish, German, French and Italian from the European disc, online matches that start at once, and a white Solar Flare.
It does not play online with 0.1.36 or older: the start of an online match changed, so both players need 0.1.37 (an older copy is told the other game is a different version). Saves and settings carry over.
Updating on Windows: replace every file of the old copy, not only the .exe.
New
- Other languages (thanks to victorgonl, #126). The setup has a second, optional field for a disc image of the European release (SLES-54945); with it, the game offers Spanish, German, French and Italian, as that release has them: the menus' painted headings and items, the battle screen (Ready, Fight, Hits), the pause menu, and the menu, dialog and story text. A copy set up before can add them later: start the setup and press "Add languages...". The game makes the languages itself at its next start, from your own disc. A language screen comes first when there is more than one language; F1 > UI > Language changes it later. Translations made by hand are possible too (docs/port/translations.md).
- Online matches start at once. The pause between finding your rival and the character select grew with the ping: about 7 seconds at a 50 ms ping and 13 at 100 ms. It is now about half a second at any ping. Meanwhile the screen says so: "Connecting to your rival...", then "Your rival "NAME" is here! The match begins."
- Clashes with Square: a press can count 2.25, and that is now what the "Square counts as a direction" option uses unless you pick another value (F1 > Controls).
- Low input lag works with Smooth motion too: your own input shows about 30 ms sooner with both on.
Fixed
- Solar Flare: the blinding is solid white again, as on the PS2, and fades from there. It was a pale wash, so it looked shorter than in an emulator.
- The menu fonts are found when the game is started from another folder (a shortcut, a terminal elsewhere); before, only "Original" was offered.
- The profile name is no longer erased by Quick Match on Linux and Steam Deck.
Tested
A fresh install with both disc images through the setup (the Linux programs): the four steps and the demo fight, then the first start: the language screen with all five languages, Spanish picked, the memory card message in Spanish. The menus, Ultimate Battle and Sim Dragon in Spanish and German; a 1P vs COM fight in Spanish with its HUD and pause menu, and the pause menu in German in an online match after the language was picked on the language screen. The Windows program on a Windows machine, by hand: the languages load. The languages the game makes are line for line those of a separate extraction, they load with the Windows C library, and the catalog readers survived 1,500 damaged catalogs each under the address and undefined-behaviour sanitizers.
Online: two copies on one machine with the ping simulated from 0 to 300 ms, with and without rollback: from the match found to both at the character select 0.5 to 0.8 seconds, both at the same frame every time. A two-minute fight at a 100 ms ping with random input on both sides, with and without rollback: every comparison of the two games the same. The banner while connecting, with one side held back four seconds. The Solar Flare in screenshots before and after. The changes to the game's own sources are all for the PC only and leave the PS2 build's code as it was (read, not rebuilt).
Not tested: online over a real internet connection (only the simulated one), a Quick Match with the name fix, the Windows release archive itself (the Linux one was: it carries the build key), the Windows setup's European step (only the Linux one ran), install.py --eu-iso in a source checkout, macOS, and the OpenGL fallback.
