Music that does not cut out, Jellyfin sign-in that works again, and artwork that lands where it is going.

Playback

  • Streaming stopped cutting out. The only thing standing between you and your connection was two seconds of decoded audio, and nothing fetched ahead of it — so a round trip was due roughly every two seconds of playback, with two seconds to cover it. Comfortable against a server on the same desk; no margin at all for a phone at the edge of a room, which is why it was heard on WiFi as well as cellular. The app now keeps around thirty seconds of audio fetched ahead.
  • High-resolution music had the least room, not the most. The buffer was sized in samples rather than in seconds, so it was half a second at CD quality and a quarter of that at 192kHz — the files with the most to download had the least time to download it in.
  • Silence is reported instead of played. A connection that goes slow without going wrong used to produce a player that said it was playing while nothing came out. It now shows buffering, and says so in the log with how long the gap was.

Signing in

  • Jellyfin sign-in works again. Jellyfin 12 changed which header it reads for the client identity and turns the old one off when you upgrade, so the app's login was refused before the password was ever checked. It read as a wrong password and was not one, and no older version of the app avoided it.
  • One case still needs a server setting: a Jellyfin 12 behind a reverse proxy asking for its own password has only one place to put credentials, and needs EnableLegacyAuthorization switched back on.

The player

  • Cover art settles without a late jump. The artwork was measured as the opening animation passed its end at full speed rather than once it stopped, so it was placed slightly wrong and then visibly corrected a moment later.
  • The player opens the same way every time, including the first time in a session.
  • Covers you can swipe reach the edges of the row they sit in.

Downloaders

  • A cancelled Lidarr download reports as cancelled, not as a failure.
  • A connection that fails says why, instead of failing silently.
  • Addresses and keys are trimmed, so a stray space pasted with them no longer breaks the connection.
  • The Home banner names only the downloaders it is actually counting.
