What's Changed
- Simplify Linux/Wayland launcher activation: use the normal shun CLI and remove the private D-Bus shell fast path and timed focus-reclaim workaround.
- Avoid registering the X11 global-shortcut backend in Wayland sessions.
- Make niri keybinding synchronization explicit and opt-in with top-level
niri = true(default:false). Reuse the existinginclude "shun-binds.kdl"and update only that dedicated file; the main niri config is never rewritten and no begin/end markers are needed. - Validate the complete staged niri configuration before replacing bindings. Preserve symlinks and permissions, including symlink targets on a different filesystem.
- Skip unmappable per-app hotkeys with a warning so the launcher and other valid bindings still synchronize. An unmappable launcher key still prevents synchronization.
- Add real-niri validation and cross-filesystem regression coverage. Final magi review: all three reviewers approved with zero findings.
niri upgrade note
If your niri config already contains include "shun-binds.kdl", keep it. To synchronize hotkey changes from shun, add this at the top level of shun's config.toml, then restart shun or run /reload:
niri = trueThe included file is entirely generated; keep handwritten bindings in the main niri config or another include. With niri = false, shun leaves existing files and bindings untouched. Commands in generated binds now invoke the normal CLI, so AppImage invocations retain normal startup overhead.
Windows/macOS shortcut handling remains unchanged. This release does not establish the exact cause of the originally reported accidental app launches; it removes the extra Wayland activation workarounds rather than claiming a proven root cause.
Verification
- magi follow-up review
20261031-140555-cce2: 3 approvals, 0 findings. - Review gate: formatting, clippy, 212 Rust tests and 156 frontend tests passed.
- The two environment-dependent regressions (real niri validation and cross-filesystem symlink persistence) were also explicitly executed and passed.
- Release workflow runs frontend/Rust tests before building Windows, universal macOS and Linux packages, then exercises the Windows silent installer.
