Nuvio Arc 1.1.0-nt.9

Nuvio Arc is my experimental fork of Nuvio for trying new ideas, not a replacement for the official app. It runs on the same boxes and works best on stronger ones. It's a one-person hobby project: report problems or ideas in this repo's Issues (best effort) or at r/NuvioForks, and please don't report issues from this build to the official Nuvio GitHub or Discord.

Nuvio Arc 1.1.0-nt.9 is built on official NuvioTV 1.1.0-beta.9 (its 31 October version, ahead of the official tag). It installs over nt.8.2 and keeps all your settings.

This one is for 2 GB boxes: 4K thumbnails before play work on the Fire TV Stick 4K Max again, and the film gets a bigger buffer. The Calendar keeps its air times when Trakt drops out, night mode gets a remote button, and all of official beta.9 comes along.

2 GB boxes

  • 4K thumbnails before play finish again. On boxes like the Fire TV Stick 4K Max the screen closed itself after 20 seconds, thinking the film had stalled. It now waits: a 4K film got its full set (122 thumbnails, where it got 3 before), with no "no picture" error afterwards.
  • No early stops. The thumbnails screen no longer ends when the TV changes refresh rate, and a full swap no longer stops thumbnails on boxes that still have plenty of free memory (like the 2 GB Xiaomi).
  • A bigger buffer. The buffer is sized after Home lets go of its pictures, the same 32 MB is no longer counted twice, and once the start is over the buffer grows back step by step to the box's full size (on a Fire Stick: 112 MB to 176 MB within 20 seconds). It gives memory back first if the box runs short; nothing already buffered is dropped.

Calendar

  • Air times stay when Trakt drops out. A lapsed Trakt login used to turn every show into "Time not announced" for hours, even shows that need no Trakt account. Arc now keeps the times it has and asks TVmaze and TheTVDB straight away.
  • Shows with only a date sort under the right day, so the Coming up row no longer jumps around in the Americas.
  • Your own dynamic MDBList lists count with "Include my own lists" on (first 150 titles).

Night mode

  • Night mode on a remote button. Give any spare button "Night mode on/off" in Settings > Playback > Remote buttons. One press turns it off, the next brings back the level you used last (Medium the first time), with a small banner. During passthrough it changes nothing and says so.
  • Strong now brings the loudest moments down about 6 dB as well as lifting quiet ones. Light and Medium are unchanged.

From official NuvioTV 1.1.0-beta.9

  • Skip intro from chapter names (Opening, Intro, Recap, Ending, Credits), without an online skip service.
  • Remote and Bluetooth media keys work on mpv.
  • Styled anime subtitles can be drawn into the picture: new "ASS render mode" with Video effect next to Overlay. Dolby Vision, the AM9's native FEL and tunnelled playback always use Overlay.
  • Sharper player badges: Atmos, DTS:X and DTS-HD MA read from the audio track, and only the language that plays.
  • Episode details from the player: hold OK on an episode in the episode list.
  • Leaving the app frees the video decoder; coming back resumes paused at the same spot.
  • Hold Back to leave the recommendations after a film.
  • Smaller fixes: Back lands where you were in Integrations, posters load with a DNS VPN app, no black screen while a details trailer starts, stream languages read properly, and MKV files with the track list at the end play.

Thumbnails

  • Seek thumbnails is a simple On/Off switch. 4K is always included; if you had "Up to 1080p", thumbnails are simply on.
  • About three times faster before play: up to 20 keyframes per request where the server allows it (TorBox does; Real-Debrid and Premiumize keep working as before). Copies are fetched in batches too.
  • The fastest copy first: a cached TorBox copy (added and removed again), Premiumize and cached debrid links now come before plain links.
  • Media servers away from home and torrents get thumbnails, from another of your sources where possible, otherwise from the server itself (one connection, at most 150 MB per film).
  • The thumbnails screen starts sooner and its count and time left are honest.

Playback

  • No more "too many requests" from TorBox on 5 or more connections: TorBox is kept to 8 at once, and a refusal is retried within half a second.
  • Heavy films start with about 6 seconds in hand, and the first minute stays quiet (background lookups wait).
  • Faster recovery after a long skip on slow-to-answer servers, and Automatic connections remember servers that refuse a second connection.
  • Memory-light downloads on boxes with 3 GB or more: the buffer filled 35-45 % sooner from far TorBox servers in tests.
  • TrueHD starts about 5 seconds sooner on a TV's own speakers and on Bluetooth.
  • Changing the audio track no longer restarts the player between tracks of the same format with Tunnelled playback on. (#80)

Home and player fixes

  • Home posters show much sooner for every poster source, not only TMDB and Fanart. (#84)
  • Home descriptions get their fourth line back. (#68)
  • Add-on subtitles you picked before come back straight away. (#81)
  • Pausing with thumbnails off stays on Play, and a quick press right after pausing is no longer undone. (#78)
  • 5.1 and 7.1 badges from badge packs are back, and Dolby Vision files no longer get an extra WEB badge. Contributed by @dineshalphaque in #82, thanks mate.

Good to know

  • Thumbnail copies from TorBox are added to your TorBox list and removed again afterwards. A cached link from another debrid add-on may stay in that account, which is why those come last.

Install

The update banner in the app installs this release for you. Or download the APK for your device below and install it over the top (your data is kept):

  • app-full-arm64-v8a-release.apk for most current boxes (Shield, Ugoos, Google TV).
  • app-full-armeabi-v7a-release.apk for the Fire TV Stick and other 32-bit devices.

Nuvio Arc installs over earlier Nuvio Arc and Nuvio-test builds, keeps all your settings, profiles and sign-ins, and still installs next to the official Nuvio. Version 1.1.0-nt.9, package com.nuvio.tv.test.
