Nuvio Arc is my experimental fork of Nuvio for trying new ideas, not a replacement for the official app. It runs on the same boxes and works best on stronger ones. It's a one-person hobby project: report problems or ideas in this repo's Issues (best effort) or at r/NuvioForks, and please don't report issues from this build to the official Nuvio GitHub or Discord.
A point release on top of Nuvio Arc 1.1.0-nt.7.1, still built on official NuvioTV 1.1.0-beta.7. It installs over nt.7.1 and keeps all your settings.
The highlights: a new Calendar with Week shelves, a richer List and a picture Month, chapters from MP4 files and media servers, Automatic speed-up and back buffer fixes that keep heavy 4K films going, one simple Connections setting and seamless frame rate switching on TVs with QMS.
Settings change: Custom network and Parallel connections are now one setting, Connections, in Settings > Playback > Buffer & network. Your settings carry over. See "Buffer & network settings: what's changed" below.
Buffer & network settings: what's changed
If you open Settings > Playback > Buffer & network, it looks a little different:
- Gone: the two switches Custom network and Parallel connections, and the separate connection count.
- New: one row, Connections, with these choices:
- Automatic (the same as Custom network off before). Streams start on one connection, and when Automatic speed-up is on it adds more downloads by itself when a film needs them and hands them back when it doesn't. You don't set a chunk size here; the app picks it.
- 1 (the same as Custom network on with Parallel connections off before). Always exactly one connection.
- 2 and up (the same as Parallel connections on with that count before). Your own number of connections. The Chunk size row appears as soon as you pick 2 or more, and works as before.
- Your settings carry over. Whatever you had set before shows up as the matching choice, so nothing changes until you change it.
- Automatic speed-up keeps its own switch. When Connections is set to a number, your own connection settings are used and only the bigger download window still applies, as a note under the switch says.
- Back buffer now keeps the length you set when your box has the memory for it (before, with ExoPlayer native memory on, it was cut to half your Min buffer). About 25 s means two quick jumps back play straight away. The Stats panel shows how many seconds are really kept.
New
- A new Week view in the Calendar, and the Calendar now opens on it. A strip along the top shows the seven days with dots for how busy each one is, and ‹ › flips the week. Each day is a row of large pictures with the show's logo, the episode (S2 E8), the air time and labels like "Season premiere". The title you're on fills the top with its logo, episode, time, network, rating, genre and summary, the same way Home does. All / Shows / Films narrows the week, and several episodes of a show that come out together share one card ("3 episodes").
- Chapters from MP4 files and media servers. MP4 films with chapters now get the same Chapters list, timeline marks and chapter names as MKV films. When a film plays from Emby, Jellyfin or Silo and the file itself has no chapters (for example when the server converts it on the fly), the player uses the chapter names your server knows. The server's own intro and credits markers don't show up as chapters, and Skip intro works as before. (#34)
- Chapters list on a remote button. A new job for your remote buttons opens the list of chapters straight away, with a press or a hold, so you can jump to any chapter without opening the player controls first. Back closes it. Like Next and Previous chapter, it works on videos with chapters when "Chapters in the player" is on. (#34)
- A Back buffer row in the Stats panel, under Network, showing how many seconds the player keeps behind you.
Better
Calendar
- The List has pictures now. Each row shows a landscape picture instead of the small poster. The panel on the right shows the episode's picture with the show's logo, the time, network, running time, rating and genre, the summary, Watch now (once it's out), Open show and the bell, plus the next two episodes of the show with their dates.
- The Month shows its shows as pictures. One show fills the day with its picture and logo, two share it side by side, three or four make a small grid, and busier days show "+N". The panel lists the day's episodes as pictures, the first one large. A "‹ October 2026 ›" row above the month flips months, and Up and Down from the first or last week go to the month before or after. OK on a day with something on opens the Week on that day, and Back anywhere in the month goes straight to Week / List / Month.
- Artwork for every show you follow. The Calendar looks up the picture, logo, rating and genre of each show once, saves them, and checks again daily while something is missing, so every show has artwork, not just the ones in Home's Coming up row. When an episode has no picture of its own, the show's backdrop or poster fills in.
Player
- Recaps and intros are no longer chapters. Chapters like "Previously on", "Intro", "Opening 1", "Vorspann" or "Générique" stay out of the Chapters list, the timeline and Next and Previous chapter, whatever the source. Credits and endings stay. If fewer than two real chapters are left, the video shows no chapters. (#34)
- Frame rate matching without the black screen on TVs with QMS. The app now picks a refresh rate your TV can switch to seamlessly, for example 48 Hz for 24 fps films in 4K instead of a full switch to 24 Hz. Boxes and TVs without QMS work as before.
- The back buffer fits the film you're watching and keeps what you set. It used to assume every film was a heavy 4K remux, so lighter films kept far less behind you than they could. Now a 20 Mbit/s film on a 2 GB box keeps the full 12 s instead of about 3 s, and with ExoPlayer native memory on, the length you set is kept when your box has the memory for it instead of being cut to half your Min buffer. About 25 s is a good choice: two taps back are then instant, with no reload. Heavy remuxes keep what fits, and at least 5 s always stays ahead. The note under Back buffer in Settings now works from the buffer size your box really gets.
- Automatic speed-up is smarter with its extra downloads. It follows your own buffer target when Custom buffers is on (Managed memory budget off and your own Target Buffer Size), so the extra downloads borrow their memory from your buffer instead of being held back by the box's free memory. It hands them back once the buffer is as full as it can get and the connection keeps up easily, so the memory goes back to your buffer, and brings one back if the film runs short again. Big films (over 40 Mbit/s) check one download first and only add more when one is too slow. On 2 GB boxes with a quick server like TorBox the extra downloads use 8 MB pieces instead of 16 MB, so they hold less memory; slower servers such as Real-Debrid keep 16 MB pieces, which are faster there. (#8)
- The player buttons editor keeps your buttons where they are. A button that is switched on stays in its own spot in the preview, just faded when the previewed title can't offer it (like Next episode on a film). Only buttons you switched off move to the bottom row, now called "Hidden". The preview opens on an episode, so Next episode and Episodes look the way they will in a show.
Home and details
- Landscape titles keep their logo at the top of Home. The big picture no longer swaps the title logo for plain text after a second on add-on titles that only have a landscape picture, and those titles now show their landscape picture there instead of an empty space.
- "Always Backdrop with Logo for Landscape Posters" works on landscape rows too, even with Landscape posters turned off. Cards in rows the add-on already shows as landscape get the backdrop with the title logo on top.
- The details page has no more empty gaps. The gap under the ratings is gone when auto-play is Manual or source pre-search is off. With them on, the source line shows while it searches and folds away if nothing is found, and the description stops at 6 lines while the source line is there ("Read more" still shows it all), so the genres, date, age rating, running time and country are never squeezed or covered. The director or writer line no longer leaves a gap when there is none.
Media servers
- Search and streams use all your libraries. The library switches for a media server now only choose which libraries get a row on Home. Search and stream results always use every library of a server that is signed in and switched on, so a title in an unticked library still shows up as a source.
Fixed
- Heavy 4K films no longer keep stopping to load on boxes with little free memory. Automatic speed-up used to drop to one download once the buffer had filled and never add one back. It now adds a download again whenever a film runs short later on, not only at the start. (#8)
- Jumping back 10 s no longer reloads on lighter films, now that the back buffer is sized for the film you're watching.
