Nuvio Arc 1.1.0-nt.5.1

A fix release on top of Nuvio Arc 1.1.0-nt.5. It installs over nt.5 and keeps all your settings.

Fixed

  • Smoother playback with big addon catalogs. Nuvio keeps your Home rows on disk so they show straight away. It used to rewrite all of them as one big file every time a row refreshed, even during a film. With large catalogs like live TV that meant hundreds of MB of memory churn, which could cause stutter, audio drops and crashes, plus a lot of writing to the box's storage. Each row now has its own small file, written only when it changes.
  • Thumbnails are much easier on memory. On a Shield, thumbnails for a 4K remux could fill the app's memory while the film played. They now read only the one picture they need, hold back whenever the box is short of memory, and media server thumbnails keep their full size on big boxes.
  • Thumbnails start switched off on boxes with less memory (Shield, Fire TV Stick and similar), only if you never chose a thumbnail setting. Switch them on any time in Settings > Playback > Player Interface.
  • "Generate thumbnails before play" no longer gives up after 10 seconds on long films.
  • TrueHD and DTS-HD films no longer stop with "Unexpected runtime error" (#2). When Nuvio's own HD audio output gave up (for example when the TV switched inputs as a film started), the film now keeps playing through your box's passthrough, and an audio error no longer costs you Dolby Vision.
  • No more bouncing on a series page (#9). Pressing Down from the buttons now makes one smooth move to the seasons and stays there.
  • The episode page is back. Holding OK on an episode shows its full description again, in both styles. Pick its look under Settings > Layout > Detail page > Episode options overlay.
  • Your Silo Home rows come back by themselves if the server was slow to answer when you signed in.
  • Much less storage used. The picture cache now has a fixed size like the official app: 300 MB, or 200 MB on smaller boxes, instead of up to 2 GB. Older pictures are cleared by themselves.

Changed

  • Search is faster. You move into the results as soon as the top row is in, slow addons are asked less while you type, rows still showing your old word are dimmed with "Updating", one dead addon no longer keeps the search loading, and searching no longer pushes your Home rows out of memory.
  • Easier on other people's media servers. On a server outside your home network without its own thumbnails, Nuvio only makes the thumbnail for the spot you skip to. Thumbnail work stops when you close the player, media server films play over one connection, and searching asks your Jellyfin, Emby and Silo servers once you've typed 3 letters, one search at a time.
  • Thumbnails from a copy pick the quickest one. An H.264 copy now comes before an HEVC one, even at 720p, and resolutions you've hidden from your source list can still be used behind the scenes for thumbnails (they never show or play).

Good to know

  • On a new install on a Shield, Fire TV Stick or similar box, thumbnails start off. Switch them on in Settings > Playback > Player Interface if you want them.
