Nuvio-test 0.9.4-beta-nt1

Brings the fork up to official NuvioTV 0.9.4-beta, with compatible upstream fixes integrated around the fork’s playback behaviour. Thank you to the NuvioTV team and contributors.

This update refines Nuvio V2, adds more control over backgrounds and Home trailers, restores the native Dolby Vision conversion libraries, and improves subtitle handling. These changes build on the V2 interface introduced in 0.9.3-beta-nt1.

At a glance

  • More background choices across Settings, Discover, Search and Library, including focused-title artwork and a brighter, sharper personal poster wall.
  • Glass popups use the visible page beneath them, including its posters and text.
  • Three Home trailer locations: Expanded card, Hero media and Feathered window, with a clearer remote-friendly selector.
  • Restored poster corner-radius and fullscreen hero controls in both V2 visual styles.
  • Native Dolby Vision conversion libraries restored for both ARM builds, with release checks that reject missing native support.
  • Subtitle fixes for wrapped MKV playback and embedded ASS styling, plus long-press to disable the selected track.
  • An optional loading-source label and more current playback HUD information.

Improved

Backgrounds that follow what you browse

Choose Follow visual style, Hero background, Posters background, Pure Liquid Dark, Midnight blue or Charcoal in Appearance.

Hero artwork follows the focused title on browsing pages, with Settings retaining the last selected title. Changing title clears the previous artwork while the new image loads. Requests wait for focus to settle, avoiding unnecessary work during rapid navigation.

Follow visual style uses artwork with Cinematic Glass and dark folds with Pure Liquid Dark. Minimal Settings keeps its plain background; choosing Hero explicitly enables title artwork there too.

The personal poster wall is brighter and uses sharper, size-limited cached images. The profile welcome screen retains a stronger central shade for readable profile cards. Glass is now first in the colour-theme row; existing selections and supporter access are preserved.

Home trailers and layout

Choose where Home trailers play:

  • Expanded card: inside the focused, expanded poster card. Portrait cards require expansion to be enabled.
  • Hero media: in the hero area, using fullscreen playback when the fullscreen hero option is enabled.
  • Feathered window: a corner window with soft edges, including when fullscreen hero artwork is selected.

The location control now uses a full-width settings row and a D-pad choice dialog. Expansion, expansion delay, autoplay and mute remain separate controls. Poster corner-radius and fullscreen hero choices are available in both Cinematic Glass and Pure Liquid Dark.

Playback information

The new Show stream source and filename option controls provider and filename visibility during loading. Progress and error messages remain available when those details are hidden. Source and filename start hidden while the saved preference loads, preventing a brief flash when the option is off.

The HUD updates late-arriving Dolby Vision RPU information and uses live decoder counters for Frame lead. Frame lead stays hidden for tunneled playback.

Fixed

  • Glass popups sample the visible page instead of substituting the hero artwork behind poster rows and other content. Compatible Home trailers retain their live glass treatment.
  • The hero image and its shading are composited together to address the thin flashing edge during Home/sidebar transitions.
  • Down from Details hero actions moves into the next content section, with more consistent section-tab focus when returning.
  • Rapid Home navigation cancels or delays outdated artwork and metadata work while retaining bounded neighbour prefetch.
  • Both release ABIs include the real libdovi bridge again. Native library presence, architecture and conversion entry points are checked before distribution.
  • Explicit HLG signalling is preserved in the affected Dolby Vision base-layer path.
  • Libass can replace Matroska extractors inside the HDR wrapper while retaining Dolby Vision transformation and DTS handling.
  • Media3’s ASS fallback retains embedded styles and font sizes; an old subtitle-padding update cannot move a newly selected track. Full ASS effects and embedded-font support still depend on the rendering engine. Libass remains off by default, with saved choices respected.
  • Long-pressing the selected subtitle track turns subtitles off in the fork’s existing player panel.

Upstream 0.9.4 also brings ratings-status icons, more accurate anime ID and scraper matching, addon IMDb metadata fallback, unaired next-episode handling, movie credit/post-credit segments, independent external-player segment forwarding and translation updates. Movie-credit auto-skip is opt-in. The fork’s playback defaults, buffer sizing, native audio changes and existing settings remain intact.

Install

Update the existing Nuvio-test installation to retain its local data:

  • app-full-arm64-v8a-release.apk — 64-bit ARM Android systems.
  • app-full-armeabi-v7a-release.apk — 32-bit ARM Android systems, including compatible Fire TV models.

Version 0.9.4-beta-nt1, build 1367, package com.nuvio.tv.test. The fork installs alongside official NuvioTV. Original Nuvio remains available in Appearance.

Blur remains subject to device and quality limits. Transparent full-screen player panels do not add decoded-video blur.
