ℹ️ THIS IS A BETA, SO THINGS MIGHT NOT WORK OR BREAK!

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT

Some users might experience midrolls with this beta. Unfortunately, while Twitch server-side ad blocking is 100% possible, a solution at scale is not possible (too many requests too proxy). We've tried optimizing the number of requests since beta 7, but that lets some midrolls slip though. Thus, this is probably the last v2 version, I can't guarantee there will be any more. The default proxy will keep being maintained for a while. Let's hope this version works as long as possible for the people not seeing any ads with it!

EDIT 2023-06-01: Welp...... might not be the last lmao

If you're a developer and want to tinker with Twitch ad blocking, look at client-side solutions. Server-side is patched everywhere and is a waste of time (you do learn a lot about how Twitch streaming works though). Client-side is easier especially with Twitch's efforts to provide a mini-player during ads.

If no ad blocker works for you but you're okay spending a few coins per month, rent a server in an ad-free country (e.g. Russia) and proxy your Twitch traffic through it using an extension like Proxy SwitchyOmega. You may even be able to share it with your friends without too many issues (also lowering the amount of money you have to spend!). Using mainstream VPNs may work but on paper they can suffer the same rate limiting from Twitch that would lead to purple screens. If you are already paying for a VPN you should try using it on Twitch!

Cheap proxy providers suggestions:

Small announcement from previous beta

All default proxies for betas 0-6 were shut down. The extension proxied too many requests for too many users which resulted in Twitch serving purple screens to our proxies.
This beta optimizes the requests we proxy thanks to some handy Firefox APIs. This also means, no Chrome betas will be distributed until we find a better solution for it, sorry!

  • Fixes script injection in Firefox Nightly
  • A few improvements

💬 We're looking for feedback on this version, if you have any, please post it here: #131

Installation

⚠️ Please remove any other Twitch-specific ad blocker (this includes the VAFT script). uBlock Origin is recommended as it is a general-purpose ad blocker. Please clear your browser's cache after installing the beta.

  • Firefox all editions (Temporary): Go to about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox > Load Temporary Add-on
  • Firefox Developer Edition (Permanent): Go to about:config > Set xpinstall.signatures.required to false > Extensions page > Gear > Install Add-on From File

(When officially released, the extension will be published on add-on stores, making installation easier)
