This release makes Neru hold up across keyboard layouts on Linux and Windows. Bindings stay on the same physical keys when you switch to a non-Latin language, and kb_layout_to_use now works on every platform. It also fixes hotkey-started modes on X11, drag-selection in Windows Terminal, and console windows flashing on exec steps.

Migration Guide

kb_layout_to_use now applies on Linux and Windows.
A macOS input source ID in a config shared with Linux or Windows now matches nothing there. Keys keep the automatic choice, but neru doctor reports it as not found. Set a value per platform, or leave it empty.

Hint search on Wayland is ASCII-only.
This matches macOS, Windows and X11.

On Windows, exec commands run without a console.
A command that talks to the console directly, such as mode con, stops working. Commands that write to standard output or launch an app are unaffected.

Keyboard layouts

• Bindings stay on Latin keys while a non-Latin layout is active. Hotkeys, hint labels and grid keys used to move or stop answering. Neru now reads keys through a Latin layout instead. This covers Wayland, X11, and punctuation keys on Windows
• kb_layout_to_use forces a layout on every platform. neru doctor lists the layouts it accepts, and the one in use
• On Wayland with two Latin layouts, bindings stay on the first, since the compositor does not report which is active. Use kb_layout_to_use to choose
• On Windows, hotkeys follow a switch between two Latin layouts, such as US to UK

Linux

• A mode started from a hotkey gets its keys on X11. Keys used to go to the focused window while the hotkey was still held

Windows

• Drag-selection works in Windows Terminal. It used to select a single character in WinUI text controls
• exec steps no longer flash a console window. Tiling window managers no longer rearrange the screen on every step
