How to Edit Key Commands

There's no user interface to edit key commands yet, so you'll have to get your hands dirty with some JSON for the time being. But it's pretty easy. When you open Storyboarder v1.3.0, a file called keymap.json will be created, which you can edit to modify key commands. You can find keymap.json in your Storyboarder application data folder, or by opening Storyboarder’s Preferences and clicking "Reveal Keymap File".

The Keymap associates each Storyboarder command with a keystroke or combination of keystrokes.

If you edit keymap.json, you must restart Storyboarder for the new key command mapping to take effect.

If you make a mistake, you can just delete keymap.json and it will be re-created from defaults.

You can see which key commands are currently active by opening the Key Command window in Storyboarder.

Happy Keyboarding!

How to Add Audio to a Board

Each board can have one audio file associated with it. To add audio, use the sidebar audio file selector to choose an audio file to copy to your project. The file you select will be copied, renamed, and saved in the project folder.

Alternatively, you may use the menu or keyboard command ('a') to add audio to a board, or simply drag an audio file onto the workspace window.

To remove the audio, use the "Remove audio" button with the trash icon next to the audio selector on the sidebar.

Audio files will be "auditioned" when you arrive at a board (either via click or arrow key). That means the audio will play back for that board only. This is useful for going through a scene at your own pace, and hearing sound effects for boards along the way.

When you play a scene using the transport controls, the audio will play for each board. If you start playback from midway through a scene, audio from any prior boards will pick up where it left off.

Audio cannot be exported to Final Cut Pro X or Premiere yet.

Supported formats are limited to what Chromium can play (WAV, MP3, M4A, and MP4).

How to Record Audio

Press the record button in the sidebar. You'll get a 3 second countdown to prepare. Press the stop button to complete your recording. You can move around to other boards while recording if you like.

Audio is stored in WAV format.
