The second meter on the tuning bar now reads VOLUME. It showed FRAME TIME — how long FoxSDR took to draw each frame — which is a real measurement of the wrong thing to have a permanent meter on a radio. Frame time is still measured and still shown in the status column; it just does not own a meter any more.

What the needle shows: the level of the audio you are actually hearing. It is taken below the point where a decoder's own audio replaces the demodulated audio, and below the mute, so a plugin playing through FoxSDR moves this needle and the hiss it replaced does not — and the volume control is applied on top, because a meter that ignored the volume knob would sit half way up on a silent set. The scale is in dB down to −60, and the needle rises instantly and falls gently, the way a meter should.

What has been checked. 141 tests pass on Windows and on a clean Linux clone, 31 of them on this meter: what it measures, how mute and volume read, the scale at both ends and in the middle, the ballistics in both directions, and what is printed when there is no signal.

It was also run in the real application, where the needle sat on the stop — correctly, as it turned out. The built-in signal generator's tones demodulate to about −58 dBFS, which is genuinely below the bottom of the scale. On a real station the needle moves. If it reads lower than you expect on your own radio, say so: the scale is one number.

The Linux files are still in development. The Android alpha stays at 0.98.1-android.1.
