TAWC v4 is the first release intended for F-Droid. Like v3 it is built reproducibly, so the F-Droid build and this APK carry the same signature and you can switch between them without reinstalling.
Home screen
- New home screen: one open distro at a time (switch from the drawer), a launcher-style apps grid first, and terminals as tabs.
- Edit app entries: command, name, icon (picker/import), environment variables and per-entry graphics backend. Search falls back to hidden apps.
- A launch splash shows while an app is starting.
Distros
- Export and import installed distros, or import your own rootfs tarball as a custom distro.
- ando is enabled by default on new installs.
- More robust installs: a cached tarball is kept when the signature fetch fails, and a toast reports a failed rootfs refresh.
Windows and input
- Windows fit and center on screen, and dialogs open over a dimmed scrim.
- Back closes the topmost dialog. Otherwise it sends XF86Back, so browsers and file managers navigate back (it used to send Escape).
- Pointer emulation (none / hover / full) for menus that need hover. This replaces the old GTK3 menu workaround.
- Gboard no longer swallows hardware key releases.
- A vsync-driven frame clock.
Terminal and integration
- SSH into a distro over your LAN or through a relay.
- Clipboard: wl-copy/wl-paste work, with reads limited to the focused terminal.
- Optional Keep awake, so guests don't stall while the screen is off.
- Bundled Hack font, a terminal scale setting, and steadier scrollback while output arrives.
- Graphics start on demand, and one notification shows what's running.
Compatibility
- Chromium runs natively on Wayland. Electron apps no longer need --no-sandbox.
- tawcroot fixes: emulated NETLINK_ROUTE where Android denies it, signal altstack fixes, and memfd migration.
- Native libraries are 16 KB-aligned.
- The APK is smaller (R8 shrinking; it is not obfuscated).
Known limitations
- Chromium/Electron's GPU process fails to initialize GL and falls back to software rendering (#1).
- Qt Quick apps draw nothing on libhybris (on Mali at least).
