Quake VR: UNLEASHED 1.1.0 beta 1: a preview of the next update. This is a beta: expect rough edges, and please report bugs (the crash dialog saves a report you can attach).
Highlights
- Arcane Dimensions support: AD's maps, monsters, weapons and rules, played natively in VR (developer launch / Debug menu while in beta).
- Euphoria-style active ragdolls: enemies stagger, fall, scramble back up and keep fighting. Shove them, lift them, throw them, sweep their legs, pull them off their feet or lift them by the legs; land on them from a height to crush them.
- Brutal melee and gore: neck snaps, judo throws, head and limb popping from impacts and stomps, flesh dents that stay on corpses, blood streams from wounds, back-splatter on walls, teeth from face punches, the buzzsaw cuts ragdolls.
- Fairer enemy melee: blows land only in front of the attacker, so sidesteps work; bigger monsters swing wider. New Combat > Enemy Melee menu with a "Show Melee Arcs" view.
- Throwing and holding: one consistent throw for props and weapons, grab floating pickups out of the air, magnetic holsters that call a thrown gun back, hands that rest on props instead of sinking in.
- Toolgun: spawns every expansion's monsters, items and weapons (Scourge of Armagon, Dissolution of Eternity, the machine games, AD), plus torches and fires; spawns appear at their final size.
- Player appearance: gloves (fingerless or full, any colour, worn leather), skin tone and bracers in a new VR Settings > Player Appearance page.
- Menus: VR Settings regrouped into fewer pages, several menu panels at once that stay where you put them, panels movable in depth.
- Climbing: your feet find footholds while you climb.
- Graphics: optional temporal anti-aliasing (TAA, experimental), smoother monster animation (less wobble), parallax surface level setting.
- Performance: faster map loads, fewer first-use hitches, ~0.5 ms less CPU per frame in VR, and no more frame drops while holding enemies in crowds.
Notes
- Configs from before 1.0.0 have their VR settings reset to the defaults (personal measurements kept).
- Experimental and off by default: single-pass stereo, TAA.
- Fixes include a crash when an Arcane Dimensions gargoyle's fireballs hit you, and VR no longer dropping to 10 fps when the game window loses focus.
