🚀 Shredder v1.3

latest release: v1.4
one month ago

This release introduces critical stability enhancements, a more protective user experience, and a hardened architecture to ensure reliable data sanitization under all conditions.

🛡️ Core Security & Reliability Hardening

  • Operational Keep-Awake Hardening: Added in-app FLAG_KEEP_SCREEN_ON during active destructive operations alongside a service-level PARTIAL_WAKE_LOCK lifecycle. This drastically reduces the risk of the OS pausing or throttling long-running shredding tasks when the device goes idle.
  • Secure Temp Wipe Cleanup: Free-space wipes and legacy free-space teardowns now securely clean temporary wipe artifacts using a strict, metadata-minimizing deletion flow (rename ➡️ truncate to 0 ➡️ fd.sync() ➡️ delete).
  • Recursive Symlink Guards: Enhanced canonical path tracking to prevent infinite loops from circular symlinks during recursive folder shredding.

🎨 UX & Interface Improvements

  • Hardened Danger Zone in Settings: Removed the highly destructive "Nuclear Option" (Full Factory Reset) and "Device Admin" buttons from the main screen's top app bar to prevent accidental triggers. They are now safely isolated within a dedicated, red-bordered "Danger Zone" card at the bottom of the Settings screen.
  • Improved Free Space Wipe Telemetry: Integrated dedicated status and progress messaging tracking for writing, cleanup, completion, cancellation, and failure states.
  • State-Preserving Navigation: Replaced inline screen-switching logic with a unified, type-safe AppScreen enum-driven state. Your current directory level, file selections, and search/sort queries will now fully survive transitions to Settings or About screens and back.
  • Contextual Back-Button Interception: Registered a Compose BackHandler that smartly intercepts the system back button—navigating up parent directories or returning from secondary screens—without abruptly exiting the app unless you are at the storage root.
  • Accessible About Screen Links: Wrapped both labels and URLs in unified clickable rows featuring underlined styling and primary color highlights for better target accessibility.

⚙️ Under the Hood

  • Target SDK Update: Upgraded project configurations to target Android SDK 36 (Minimum SDK remains 24).
  • Dead Code Cleanup: Eliminated the unused legacy Shredder.kt file to improve project maintainability and codebase cleanliness.
  • Language & Tooling: Powered by Kotlin 2.2.10 and built entirely on Jetpack Compose.

⚠️ Disclaimer: Data deleted with Shredder is permanently IRREVERSIBLE. Please double-check your file selections before confirming destruction.
