What's new

This build is for testing Mario Kart World. The app's updater does not offer it: install it by hand from this zip.

  • Mario Kart World uses compact memory, as Donkey Kong Bananza already did: written memory that is mostly zeroes gives those pages back. In the one comparable run that ran out of memory, it lasted 87 s instead of 53 s.
  • Task and mesh draws get their push constants (patch 0038). They read constants their stages were not declared for. Nothing yet shows whether this ends the Mario Kart World GPU hang.
  • Fixes from other projects (patches 0039-0043, credited in the README): reused GPU memory ranges are mapped again when their pages changed, the syncpoint page acknowledges requests against newer values, the GPU thread wakes at once for new work during semaphore waits, memory reference tables are smaller, and a late cancel can no longer remove a newer syncpoint action.
  • A crash at boot is fixed (patch 0037): moving the controller while a game loaded could close the app. Seen once on Mario Kart World; not seen again in the test builds that have the fix.

Title ID PPSA98515: this build replaces the installed app.

Tested on a PS5 (firmware 13.60)

This exact build: nothing yet. Unpublished test builds based on v1.219.011, on one console, Mario Kart World only:

  • With task and mesh draws: the map screen with image, then VK_ERROR_DEVICE_LOST (one run reached it).
  • Without task and mesh draws, without compact memory (one run): no GPU hang; it ran out of memory on the map screen.
  • Without task and mesh draws, with compact memory (two runs that got past loading): one froze after the map zoomed in. The other reached the menu on the road at about 21 fps, with nothing visibly missing, and ran out of memory after 87 s.

This release has task and mesh draws on, so the GPU hang above may still happen. v1.219.011 on the same console: Super Mario Bros. Wonder ran fine at 50-60 fps, and Donkey Kong Bananza ran at about 14 fps.

Known problems

  • Mario Kart World may still hang the GPU soon after the map screen.
  • Mario Kart World runs out of memory after a short time. The one run that reached the menu went at about 21 fps.
  • Mario Kart World sometimes stops at 98% while loading, 2 of the 7 launches tested, or freezes later with no error. Close the app and try again. The 98% stop: the game waits for a value from the GPU that does not arrive.

How to install and report

  1. Close the app, extract the zip, and copy the PPSA98515 folder over /data/homebrew/PPSA98515.
  2. To go back, install the v1.219.004 zip the same way.
  3. Please report the game, what was on screen and the files from /data/eglantineps5/logs (crash-*, stderr.log).

You need your own keys, firmware and games. Details in the README.

Novedades

Problemas conocidos

Necesitas tus propias claves, firmware y juegos. Detalles en el README.
