Chapter navigation, a subtitle style of its own for HDR, and a subtitle that stops moving while it is being read.
Requires tvOS 18 or later.
Added
- Chapters. A file with two or more chapters now has a chapter list in the player and a control that appears only when there is one. The list opens on the chapter playing, and picking one leaves the panel open — chapter skipping is usually done more than once in a row. The progress bar shows where each chapter begins. Jumps land on the boundary rather than on the nearest keyframe before it.
- A separate subtitle style for HDR and Dolby Vision. Off by default. On HDR pictures, white is rendered at the panel's peak brightness rather than at SDR white, which on a bright television reads as glare. Settings › Playback › Subtitles now offers a colour and a brightness that apply only to HDR and Dolby Vision, leaving the standard style untouched everywhere else. The lowest brightness is dim, never invisible.
Fixed
- Subtitles no longer drop mid-sentence. Subtitles are lifted clear of the playback controls while those are on screen. The controls hide on a timer that knows nothing about what is being read, so the subtitle used to slide back down in the middle of a line. It now waits for the line to change, and moves between subtitles instead.
Changed
- The engine switch moved from the main control row to More actions. It is a way out of a file one engine will not play, rather than a control to reach for during playback.
