Dialogue you can actually hear
A new Dialogue level control under Settings → Playback → Audio. It sets how
loud the centre channel is folded in when a 5.1 track is played through stereo —
the usual reason speech sits under the music. Prevent downmix clipping is
beside it, trading a little level for headroom.
Both are in Settings rather than in the player because libmpv builds its audio
chain from them when playback starts.
Amplification that stays put
The player's amplification control can now be remembered between films. It is off
by default — amplification is usually the fix for one badly mastered release, and
carrying it forward is how everything ends up loud. Turning it on keeps whatever
level you are listening to.
It tells you when it is out of date
Settings → About now says when a newer build has been published, and what changed.
It cannot install it — nothing sideloaded on tvOS can replace itself — but your
sideloading app will already be offering it if it follows the Nuvio source.
Notes
Two audio settings from Android TV are not here and will not be: keeping the
original track alongside a downmix, and forced optical passthrough. The first is
an ExoPlayer arrangement libmpv has no equivalent of; the second needs an audio
passthrough API that tvOS does not have. Passthrough on Apple TV is decided by the
Apple TV's own audio settings.
