Nuvio for Apple TV 1.0.0

latest releases: v1.0.44, v1.0.43, v1.0.42...
one month ago

An unofficial tvOS client for the Stremio addon
ecosystem, built to match the NuvioTV Android TV app — its design system, layout metrics and
screen structure ported from the Compose source.

Install

The IPA is unsigned. Sign it with your own certificate and sideload it; it will not install
as-is. Requires tvOS 17 or later.

What is in this build

Playback. Two engines, chosen per file: AVFoundation for H.264/HEVC/HLS, and libmpv —
rendered through MoltenVK — for everything AVFoundation cannot demux, MKV above all. mpv is the
default, because it is the one that works end to end here. Its transport is a port rather than a
tvOS invention: a focusable, accelerating scrub bar, the Android control row, bottom-left audio
and subtitle overlays, an OSD clock with the projected end time, and seven picture modes.

Menu means one thing during playback, decided in one place the way Android decides it with a
single BackHandler: close the panel, dismiss the prompt, hide the transport, then leave.

Audio. mpv drives avfoundation (AVSampleBufferAudioRenderer) first and falls back to
audiounit. The older driver opens on iOS and in the simulator and is refused by Apple TV
hardware, where it fails silently and leaves a picture with no sound — if an output ever fails,
the player now says so instead.

Languages. Preferred audio and subtitle languages are picked from Android's own 78-language
catalogue rather than typed as codes, and they actually select a track: alang/slang for mpv,
selection criteria for AVFoundation. The two ISO-639-2 spellings are reconciled, so a track
labelled fre matches a preference of fra.

Accounts. Sign in by scanning a QR code with a phone, then two-way sync of library, watch
progress, collections, addons, plugin repositories and settings, per profile. Signing out takes
the account's content with it, including the Top Shelf row.

The rest. Trakt and Simkl tracking, Real-Debrid/Premiumize/TorBox, TMDB enrichment, MDBList
ratings, AniSkip segments, local JS scrapers, profiles with PIN locking, and ~280 settings keyed
to the same preference names as the Android DataStores.

Known limits

  • Torrents play only through a debrid service; there is no bundled torrent engine.
  • Nuvio's publishable key is a build-time secret in the official app, so it has to be pasted in
once under Settings → Account before signing in.
  • Skip marks cover anime only. The provider for ordinary series is IntroDB, whose endpoint is a
private build value in the official app; the client is here and the endpoint is asked for.
  • Trailers hand off to the YouTube app rather than playing in place.
  • Settings, Detail and Streams are still English under a translated shell.
  • Frame-rate and dynamic-range matching is wired to AVDisplayManager but has only been
exercised on the simulator, which has no display modes to switch between.
