What's new in Hermex 1.8
Faster, calmer chat
- Chat opening, typing, scrolling, and streaming do less repeated work, with code highlighting off the main thread and limits on transcript image caches.
- Large Markdown files and workspace diffs render lazily; shared-file imports and local cache writes use fewer resources.
- Long user messages can be folded, the working pill shows elapsed time, and wider screens get a comfortable reading width.
- Web links open in an in-app Safari sheet; forked chats link back to their parent session.
More control during a run
- Long-press Send to choose Queue, Steer, or Stop and send for one message without changing your default.
- Queued messages survive leaving a chat mid-run, and a refused steering request no longer stops the active run.
- File-edit tool rows show expandable diffs and added/removed line counts. Diff and patch code blocks highlight changes too.
- Session streams show Waiting for network while offline and reconnect when connectivity returns.
Sessions and navigation
- Undo an archive from its confirmation toast, and search sessions with multiple words in any order.
- Session times update while the list is idle; iPad keyboard shortcuts switch between chats.
- New chats use the selected profile, and chats started from the session list under a project filter join that project.
- Sessions refresh when the app returns to the foreground; the iPad sidebar and Kanban board retain their state during navigation.
Bot Mode (beta)
- Tapback reactions sync with Hermes Desktop, with editable quick replies and message timestamps in chat.
- Browse Desktop sections in the inbox and move bots between sections from the phone.
- Working bots and bots waiting for an answer sort first; chat titles show waiting and failed states.
- Finished turns fold behind a Worked for row, with chat haptics and steadier working faces.
- Answer requests to connect an app, view host status, and use Password AutoFill in credential prompts.
- Approval, question, and app-connection handling includes compatibility fixes for Hermes 0.21.4 and 0.21.5.
Notifications and fixes
- A one-time notification offer appears after your first session run starts. Push-paired servers have a Send Test Notification button in Settings.
- Local alerts name and open the right chat and cover failed runs; approval and question push alerts still arrive during Live Activities.
- Time Sensitive approval alerts support Focus, and denied notification permission is reported accurately.
- Keyboard recovery after Files, camera dismissal, local HTTP/Tailscale connections, dictation language fallback, and privacy manifests are improved.
