github ultimatejimmy/koreader-xray-plugin 26.7.16

This update focuses on making the Unit Converter scan significantly faster on e-readers and improves the user interface settings. I also fix a bug affecting low powered devices with large books.

Speed and Battery Improvements

  • Smart Defaults for E-Readers: The plugin now automatically detects if you are using an e-reader (like a Kindle, Kobo, or PocketBook). On these devices, the option to scan for written-out numbers (like "five miles") is turned off by default.
  • Faster Startup: Skipping this spelling pass on e-readers makes the initial scan 4x to 5x faster
  • Always Fast on Mobiles/Computers: If you run KOReader on an Android phone, tablet, or computer, scanning for written numbers remains on by default because these devices are fast enough that there is no noticeable slowdown.

Settings and UI

  • New Settings Card: The toggle for scanning written numbers has been moved to a settings card where you can easily turn it on or off manually.
  • Visual Improvements: The scanning progress bar now dims the background screen correctly to make it clear that a scan is in progress, and the dimming clears away cleanly without slowing down or crashing older devices.

Bug

  • Cap the number of pages sampled by non-unit converter scan to prevent a freeze on larger books (there was one specific situation where this wasn't capped, but it was capped elsewhere)
