On Windows, extract the zip anywhere and run QuiverLauncher.exe. It updates itself from there. An installer is also listed under Assets below, but the zip is the one we recommend.
If you're already on an earlier 4.0.0 beta, Quiver offers this update by itself. The exception is a Flatpak installed through Discover or another software center: run flatpak install --user --bundle once with this release's file, and it updates itself from then on.
Quiver Launcher 4.0.0-beta.3
The third beta of Quiver Launcher 4. It finds more of your Quiver Launcher 3 apps, rebuilds TV mode as a larger library, brings back features players missed from 3, and stops offering updates your computer can't run.
Coming from Quiver Launcher 3
- Custom install folders now work. Earlier betas could miss a custom install folder set in Quiver Launcher 3, so apps there showed as not installed.
- If you've already imported, Quiver checks once for apps it missed and asks whether to use those copies where they are. Nothing is moved or downloaded.
- Your tags, hidden apps and tag filters come over too. Tag filters become playlists.
- Locate existing install… points Quiver at an app that's already on your computer. It's in the app's menu and on its page, and on the error you see when an app's folder has gone.
- A simpler import offer: one question with Add and Not now, and it won't come back once you've said no. You can still import from Settings.
TV mode and controllers
- There's now one TV mode: the usual Library and Browse with large box art, larger controls and a clock. The separate TV screen and the setting that chose between them are gone, along with that screen's console dropdown (use Filters) and typing anywhere to search.
- TV mode scales with your screen, so a 4K TV looks as 1080p does.
- Controller buttons changed: Y no longer gets an app. Y opens a card's menu everywhere, and X is the new quick action: Get on a Browse card, Play on a library card, and the main button on an app's page. On a keyboard, it's G.
- Controller navigation is fixed across the launcher, including app pages, menus and dialogs.
Steam Deck and Linux
- Close Quiver from Game Mode: the top bar now has an X, with TV mode on or off.
- Flatpak updates no longer fail on a copy installed system-wide. They now go to your own user install.
Updates
- Updates and Get use the newest release with a build for your computer. You won't be told to update to a release that only has files for another system.
- Skip this update, in the app's menu and on its page, stops offering a release until a newer one comes.
- Automatic updates wait rather than asking which file to download.
- Release notes open inside the launcher, from See changelog and What's new.
Browse
- Hide from Browse: right-click a card, or use the button on an app's page. Filters → Hidden apps shows them again.
- Cards have menus, with Get, View on GitHub or GitLab, Read the README and more.
- Add to library saves an app without downloading it.
- Two card styles, Box art and Wide art. View on Browse, or Settings → Browse cards, chooses the style and what cards show. The library's View menu has its own choices.
Your apps
- Set each picture: box art, cover, banner, icon and logo each take an address or a file.
- Change an app's game, and choose which catalog app a repository means when it has several.
- Link a local app to a catalog app to use its page, artwork and reviews. Your files stay yours.
- Add files to folder, such as
portable.txt, from the app's Manage menu. Settings → Apps folder can addportable.txtto new installs. - Tags are now in an app's menu, next to Add to playlist.
- Playlists can filter by platform.
Settings
- Custom background music is back. Choose a sound file, and it fades out while you play.
- A picture behind the library's grid: Settings → Library → Library background, with its opacity.
- Interface size is now a percentage, from 90% to 200%.
- Mouse wheel speed, and a way to turn smooth scrolling off.
- Forward on the mouse's forward button or Alt+→ reopens the page Back left. You can rebind it.
Fixes
- The window's buttons stay on screen in a narrow window, and the top bar compacts when it runs out of room.
- The versions window has one scrollbar, and the focus box stays on the right button.
- B or Esc closes the feedback box without leaving the app's page.
- A saved state that can't be loaded now shows an error with Reload instead of a blank window.
Usage data and privacy
- Usage data now goes to Google Analytics, through quiverlauncher.com, which passes on your country instead of your IP address. It's no longer linked to your Quiver account.
- Errors now go to Sentry, including failed installs, launches and updates. Paths and user names are removed, and only your country is kept.
- In the EU, UK and Switzerland, nothing is sent until you click Allow. This includes existing players. The same applies if Quiver can't work out where you are.
- You can turn it off in Settings. What's sent.
Known limits
- "Verified X" on cards can still name a release for another system, though what installs is the right one for your computer.
- New text in the other languages was machine-translated. Fixes from native speakers are very welcome.
Testing notes
Please try importing from Quiver Launcher 3, TV mode with a controller, and Hide from Browse. Tell us how it went on Discord or in Issues.
Thanks to Veggies for Hide from Browse and the Forward button, to adhdandy for the idea behind Add to library, and to everyone testing the beta.
