On Windows, extract the zip anywhere and run QuiverLauncher.exe. It updates itself from there. An installer is also listed under Assets below, but the zip is the one we recommend.
If you're already on 4.0.0-beta.1, Quiver offers this update by itself.
Quiver Launcher 4.0.0-beta.2
The second beta of Quiver Launcher 4. It makes it easier to pick which version of an app you get, gets Windows apps running on a Steam Deck, and fixes what beta testers ran into.
Choose what you get
- Get has an arrow beside it, on Browse, on an app's page and on library cards. It opens a list of the app's versions, so you can get an older one, or one Quiver hasn't verified. Get itself, and Y on a controller, still get the newest verified version.
- Install any release from the Releases tab. A file that suits your computer now installs that version, and that file, instead of opening the page in your browser. Each release also has an Install button. Releases Quiver hasn't verified ask first.
- Right-click an app → Manage → Change version… opens the same list.
- On Linux, choose an app's Windows build. For an app with both builds, Get's arrow and Manage → Get the Windows version install its Windows build instead of its Linux one, and Switch to the Linux version goes back. Updates keep to the build you chose.
- Release notes come after a release's files, so a long changelog doesn't push them out of sight. Long release notes and READMEs show their start, with Read more for the rest.
Windows apps on Linux and the Steam Deck
- Windows apps now run through Proton when Steam has it, and through Wine when it doesn't. A Steam Deck has Proton but no Wine, so Windows apps wouldn't start there before.
- Settings → Apps folder → Windows apps chooses Wine or a particular Proton for every Windows app. An app's Launch options can still choose its own, and shows what it uses otherwise.
Steam Deck
- Game Mode is always full screen, and Desktop Mode keeps its own window size and place.
- You stay signed in when you switch between Game Mode and Desktop Mode.
- Smoother scrolling with a controller's d-pad outside TV mode, and the focus box no longer stays behind on a control the focus has left.
Windows
- Close to the system tray, as Quiver Launcher 3 could: Quiver keeps running and updating apps, and the tray icon opens it again. Turn it on in Settings → General.
- Start with Windows, in the system tray, from the same place.
- Starting Quiver while it's already running opens the one that's running.
- Updates no longer fail on read-only files. Some apps come with files marked read-only, which stopped an update from replacing them.
Your library
- The library remembers its tab and filters after a restart, and Browse keeps its filters and sort while you're in the library.
- Pinned apps show a pin on their card and in the sidebar.
- Updates no longer offer an older version. Quiver now goes by when releases came out, so a release numbered oddly doesn't show as an update.
Usage data
- Each screen is sent once per launch, instead of every time you open it.
Testing notes
Please try Get's arrow, on Browse and in your library, and Windows apps on a Steam Deck. On Windows, try closing to the tray and starting with Windows. Tell us how it went on Discord or in Issues.
Thanks to everyone testing the beta.
