Govee Effect Studio
Version 7 delivers a complete local effect-authoring and management experience for supported Govee lights. Effect Studio runs inside Home Assistant, communicates over local Bluetooth, and requires no Govee cloud account.
Complete editing for both supported models
- H617A supports native scenes, painted segments, single-layer effects, multi-layered effects, reactive music effects and advanced layered effects.
- H6199 supports native scenes, palette effects, reactive music effects, advanced layered effects, and complete Movie and Game video profiles.
- H6199 video profiles keep saturation, capture area, sound effects, softness, white balance, relative brightness and blank-screen behaviour together as one reusable effect.
- Native scene parameters and advanced layered definitions can be edited without leaving Home Assistant.
Integrated with Home Assistant
- Effect Studio is available from the Home Assistant sidebar and adapts to desktop and mobile layouts.
- Saved effects appear by name in the standard light effect selector for dashboards, scenes, scripts and automations.
- The Apply custom effect entity action accepts either a saved name or stable effect ID and supports normal Home Assistant entity, device, area and label targets.
- Integration options control which Studio categories and effect names are exposed for each light.
- Administrators can create, edit, rename and delete effects. Other authenticated users can browse compatible scenes and saved effects in read-only mode.
Live and durable editing
- Live previews supported changes directly on the selected light.
- Apply sends the current draft once when Live is disabled.
- Auto Save persists committed edits to saved effects and per-light built-in defaults.
- Save As creates a reusable named effect without replacing the built-in template.
- Reset restores the catalogue definition.
- The current unsaved workspace is retained per device, while saved effects remain available across Home Assistant restarts.
Home Assistant light commands, scenes and automations take priority over Live previews. Effect uploads and activation are applied as one serialised operation, with verification and recovery where the device supports state readback.
Local and model-aware
Effect Studio uses model-specific catalogues, capabilities and protocol encoders for H617A and H6199. Saved content is only offered to compatible devices, and incompatible frontend, backend or stored definitions are rejected rather than guessed.
A light cannot return the effect body uploaded by the Govee app, and the app provides no supported export format. Effect Studio therefore cannot import an arbitrary app-authored DIY effect directly; effects are authored or retained within Home Assistant.
Upgrading
Update through HACS or install the ha_govee_led_ble.zip release asset, then restart Home Assistant. Existing light entities and standard effect-selector automations continue to use the same Home Assistant control path.
