Bug patch: a pair of players silently couldn't hear each other
Two specific players could end up unable to hear or be heard by each other, while everyone else in the lobby heard all of them fine. It could start mid-session ("worked earlier today, now it doesn't"), survive a server restart, and survive both players closing and reopening the game.
Root cause: the voice system identifies each player to the ODIN gateway by a "uid" that was just your voice_player_name. If two clients ever presented the same uid, the gateway treated the second as the same connection as the first and quietly dropped it from the other's view. This happened when two players shared a name (both default Player, or a copied RVVoiceConfig.txt) — or, more commonly, when a previous launch of the game hadn't fully exited and its voice client was still in the room under your uid, so your fresh launch collided with your own leftover session. That's why closing and reopening didn't fix it, and why "we could still hear ourselves after closing" was the tell.
Fix: the uid is now your name plus a short random tag generated fresh every launch (e.g. Jacob#4f2a). Every launch is a distinct voice identity, so a leftover/zombie session can't collide with a new one and two players can't accidentally share an identity. The tag is internal only — the who's-talking overlay still shows just Jacob.
No config change or action needed; it's automatic.
Updating
- Close the game completely.
- Copy the new
Client.dllinto…\Rumbleverse\Binaries\Win64\, overwriting the old one. - Launch — done. Your
RVVoiceConfig.txtsettings are kept.
(Auto-updater installs this automatically on next launch.)
