v1.7.0 (Current Build) - New: Spatial (directional) voice audio
- New: voice chat is now directional. Another player's voice pans left or
right based on where they actually are relative to you - directly ahead
sounds centered, someone to your left comes through more on the left
channel, someone to your right comes through more on the right. This is
on top of the existing distance-based volume falloff (farther players
were already quieter) - this release adds LEFT/RIGHT direction on top
of that, using the position data the voice system was already sending
for proximity. Works with headphones or any stereo speaker setup; a
mono output device automatically gets a plain combined mix instead
(no change in behavior there). - New setting: voice_spatial_audio=1 in RVVoiceConfig.txt. Set to 0 to
turn it off and go back to the old centered-only audio, no restart-
breaking side effects either way. - This does not change how loud or how far you can hear someone - only
which speaker/ear their voice leans toward.
