v1.6.6 (Current Build) - Patch: Automatic updates

  • New: the client now checks for updates on its own. A few seconds after the
game starts it quietly looks for a newer STABLE build. If there is one, a
Windows "RVClient Update Available" box pops up with the release notes and
    a Yes / No choice:

    • Yes -> it downloads the new package, closes the game, installs it
(keeping your RVVoiceConfig.txt settings), and relaunches the
game for you. Nothing to copy by hand.
    • No -> it remembers that version and won't ask about it again; the
      game continues normally.
If you are already on the newest stable build, a small on-screen note says
"RVClient vX.Y.Z - up to date" and then disappears.
  • Only STABLE releases are offered. Test / preview builds are published under
a different tag and the updater ignores them completely, so an auto-update
will never pull an untested build onto your machine.

  • New file in this package: RVUpdateHelper.exe. It sits next to Client.dll and
is what performs the file swap after the game closes (the game locks
Client.dll while running, so the mod itself can't replace it). You do not
run it yourself. Your antivirus may ask about it the first time - it only
copies the update's files into your game folder and restarts the game.

  • Controls, in RVVoiceConfig.txt:
auto_update=1 -> set to 0 to turn the update check off entirely
update_repo=... -> which GitHub repo to check (leave as-is)
These lines are added automatically; you normally never need to touch them.

  • Also included (carried from the v1.6.5 line): the voice overlay showing a
player as "Player 1" / "Player 2" instead of their real name after you
walked away and came back is fixed - the name is no longer forgotten on a
proximity timeout, so it stays consistent no matter how often you move in
and out of range. The "who's talking" mic icon also clears promptly now
(it measures real speech level instead of trusting the decoder's silence
flag, which stayed false for the quiet room tone between words).
