Familiar’s Mac and Windows window controls now work with Omarchy’s official titlebars.
You get Familiar’s button styles, theme controls and minimise behaviour while Omarchy keeps ownership of the renderer. Enable them from Window controls → Use Familiar controls. Disabling Familiar restores Core’s defaults; titlebars keep Core’s floating-workspace scope.
This release also tackles the less glamorous bits that matter once you use a desktop every day:
- Safer clipboard handling on Qt 6.12. Editable settings no longer read clipboard text automatically. Explicit paste is capped at 16 KiB and two seconds, with failed, oversized or stale results discarded. Thanks to @HANCORE-linux for finding the issue.
- Fewer setup and cleanup surprises. Fixes cover Show Desktop recovery after updates, setup and repair through symlinked paths, stale development records after uninstall, and standalone setup on hosts with official titlebars.
- Cleaner input configuration. Caps Lock, Command and resize settings now keep separate hook markers, fixing collisions during reset and uninstall.
- More reliable dock behaviour. Chromium web apps match the exact profile—Profile 1 no longer matches Profile 10—and drag state is released when a dock component is destroyed.
- ARM development builds. Adds bundles tied to an exact source commit, first-run setup and rollback, and native ARM CI. Stable release binaries remain Linux x86_64; this is not a stable ARM desktop release.
General, Windows and Mac layouts are all still available in v0.1.6.
Install or update
Existing stable installs. Update through Omarchy’s plugin flow, then complete any setup prompted inside Familiar. Your pins, folders and settings are preserved.
First-time installation:
omarchy plugin add https://github.com/tcballard/omarchy-plugin-familiar-desktop --enableRequired native setup happens inside Familiar, with download progress and retry. No second terminal command is needed.
Migrating from Familiar’s private titlebars. Choose Use Familiar controls in Window controls and follow the logout/login prompt. Hosts with the official package keep Omarchy’s renderer. Older hosts retain the fallback for the documented Hyprland 0.56.2 ABI.
Development installs. Keep the snapshot printed by its installer and follow the development rollback instructions before returning to stable.
What’s checked, and what’s still open
All four automated desktop smoke cases passed, including Qt 6.12 and official titlebars v0.2.1 built from source. The release workflow verified all 17 uploaded assets and both public binary downloads. Full test scope and acceptance are recorded in PR #92.
CLI apps can still be attributed to the wrong shared terminal window; that part of #91 is deferred. The titlebar integration depends on Core’s current configuration contract. ARM desktop acceptance and marketplace verification remain separate from this release.
