Improved Quest 2 support 🌙
AI 3D did work on the Quest 2 back in v0.7.7 with MiDaS, but its performance wasn't where I wanted it. When Nightfall moved to ZipDepth, the Quest 2 couldn't start the OpenCL backend used by ZipDepth-384. Thanks to @dahmatrixdeed-del for helping test a better solution!
AI 3D's Auto mode now tries ZipDepth-384 with OpenCL first. If OpenCL isn't available, it switches to ZipDepth-256 with OpenGL. Both models are bundled in the APK, and you can select a model and backend manually without restarting the app.
On Quest 2, our tester reports 1080p streaming at 72 FPS/72 Hz, with around 18–20 Hz depth updates. That's pretty much the balance I was hoping for! Their 120 Hz test put more pressure on the GPU and reduced depth updates, so 1080p at 72 FPS/72 Hz is a good starting point for Quest 2 AI 3D.
Fixes and polish
- Fixed an XR haptic call that could crash the app when pressing controller buttons.
- Replaced the virtual keyboard's Redo shortcut with Insert, and corrected special-key mapping so it reaches the host.
- Fixed cases where opening the menu or keyboard after leaving the headset idle could make the view go black. The menu and resize controls now use fewer OpenXR layers.
- Kept corner resizing available while the menu or keyboard is open, and prevented a held grab from accidentally activating a screen shortcut.
- Fixed SBS switching, bezel controls, and ambient-light presentation on the welcome screen.
- Cleared stale grab and resize input when removing or replacing the headset.
Sorry, still no Linux build
This release is Android-only. The Linux client remains in the source tree, and getting it tested and ready for another release is my next focus.
