๐Ÿš€๐Ÿ“ฆ PXPlay Multi Platform Release

PC v3.1.1 โ€ข Android v8.1.1

PXPlay PC v3.1.1 is now available for Windows, Linux and macOS.

v3.1.1 is a focused maintenance release following v3.1.0. It concentrates on stability, compatibility and safer platform integration, including an important Vulkan fix for older Intel-based Macs, improved Linux and Steam Runtime support, more reliable Local Play console detection, stronger license handling and several startup, focus and demo-related fixes.

The Android version remains on v8.1.1 and is unchanged. Its release notes are included further below for reference.

๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ PXPlay PC v3.1.1

โช In Case You Missed v3.0.0

v3.0.0 was one of the biggest PXPlay PC updates so far and introduced:

  • Local multiplayer for PS4 and PS5
  • Frame generation and interpolation
  • The new D3D12 renderer on Windows
  • DualSense haptic feedback over Bluetooth
  • Steam shortcuts that launch directly into a stream
  • Remote console registration through PSN
  • Direct game launching from recently played games
  • Improved third-party launcher integration
  • A modernized rendering and video enhancement pipeline

All of these features remain part of v3.1.1.

The full v3.0.0 release notes can be found here:

https://github.com/streamingdv/PSPlay-Application-Hosting/releases#release-v3.0.0_v8.1.1

๐ŸŒŸ What v3.1.0 Added

v3.1.0 built on that foundation with:

  • Smoother and more consistent frame generation and frame pacing
  • Improved rendering and decoder stability
  • A further modernized interface with animated backgrounds
  • Better DualSense haptics and motion controls
  • More robust third-party launcher integration
  • FFmpeg 8.1.3
  • Numerous controller, focus and UI improvements

v3.1.1 keeps all of those improvements and focuses on making the overall experience more reliable across supported platforms.

๐ŸŽ Important macOS Stability Fixes

Fixed Vulkan Crashes on Older Intel-Based Macs

Fixed a native crash when initializing the Vulkan renderer on some older Intel-based Macs and legacy Mac GPUs.

The crash occurred inside MoltenVK when it attempted to use Metal placement heaps on systems whose drivers reported support but rejected them during memory allocation. This affected hardware such as older Intel Iris Pro and NVIDIA GeForce Mac GPUs.

PXPlay now uses the safer memory behavior that worked reliably in previous releases while retaining Vulkan support on these systems.

Preserved the macOS Application Signature

PXPlay no longer writes shader cache or JVM crash report files into its own signed application bundle.

These files are now stored under:

~/Library/Application Support/PXPlay/

This prevents the installed app from modifying itself after launch and keeps its macOS code signature intact.

Fixed Local Network Access for PXPlay Demo

Fixed PXPlay Demo being unable to access consoles on the local network when the full PXPlay application was installed as well.

macOS previously identified both applications through the same launcher binary, which could cause the Demo to inherit the wrong Local Network privacy state and prevent it from connecting.

The full and Demo applications are now correctly distinguished by macOS. PXPlay Demo is also identified by its proper name in the Dock, application menu and System Settings.

๐Ÿง Better Linux and Steam Deck Compatibility

Improved AppImage Compatibility

The Linux AppImage now uses a newer runtime that works more reliably in environments where a traditional setuid fusermount is unavailable.

This particularly improves compatibility with:

  • Steam Deck Gaming Mode
  • Newer Steam Runtime containers
  • Restricted Linux environments
  • Systems where AppImage mounting through FUSE is unavailable

When mounting is not possible, the runtime can use a user namespace or extract the AppImage automatically.

The AppImage is also unmounted immediately after PXPlay exits, so Steam no longer keeps PXPlay marked as running for several additional seconds.

Improved Linux Startup

Fixed the PXPlay main window appearing as a black window over the splash screen for several seconds during startup.

The main window now remains hidden until it has rendered correctly and then fades in smoothly. The splash screen fades out at the appropriate time.

The window also reappears correctly after returning from a stream.

Fixed Linux Focus Navigation

Fixed D-pad and keyboard navigation focusing the frame pacing setting on Linux even when that setting was not available.

๐Ÿ“ก More Reliable Local Play and Console Detection

  • PXPlay now attempts to wake a console at most twice during a Local Play connection attempt.
  • If the console still does not respond, PXPlay reports that the console is taking too long instead of continuing to send wake-up requests indefinitely.
  • When a registered console is identified by its MAC address but does not answer, PXPlay no longer falls back to another console merely because its name or type matches.
  • This prevents PXPlay from accidentally waking or connecting to a different console on the network.
  • Added a compatibility setting to disable Takion protocol v20 if a particular console or network setup behaves better with the previous protocol.

๐Ÿ” Improved License Security and Reliability

PXPlay PC v3.1.1 introduces a new signed license format.

  • The license server now signs every desktop license, and PXPlay verifies the signature before accepting it.
  • Existing v3.1.0 license information is migrated automatically during the first start of v3.1.1.
  • Users do not need to enter their license key again.
  • The migration does not consume another activation.
  • Starting a stream while the first verification after an upgrade is still running now waits briefly for verification instead of immediately asking for a license.
  • A license server that is temporarily unavailable is reported as unavailable rather than incorrectly treating the license as refused.
  • Stored license information is retained during temporary server failures.
  • PXPlay periodically renews and verifies the license while it is running.
  • A license that expired while PXPlay was offline is renewed automatically when a stream is started and the server is available again.
  • If a stored license cannot currently be confirmed, PXPlay explains that no key needs to be entered again and that verification will resume automatically once the server can be reached.

Windows, Linux and macOS continue to share the same desktop license key.

๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ Interface and Focus Fixes

  • Fixed focus getting lost on the home screen in handheld mode when clicking or tapping outside console tiles or recently played game cards.
  • Gamepad navigation now continues working correctly after returning to the PXPlay window.
  • Improved focus handling in the profile editor.
  • Improved focus behavior in console registration and PSN login views.
  • Resetting appearance settings now restores handheld mode to the correct platform default:
    • Enabled by default on Windows and Linux
    • Disabled by default on macOS
  • Additional UI refinements and startup presentation fixes.

๐Ÿงช PXPlay Demo Improvements

  • Fixed Local Network privacy handling for the macOS Demo application.
  • PXPlay Demo is now clearly identified as PXPlay Demo by macOS.
  • Launcher-started Demo sessions no longer show the session-limit notice as an unseen dialog; the information is written to the log instead.
  • Demo sessions are counted as soon as they reach the console, preventing a later failure from leaving the session uncounted.
  • The number of sessions per run and the time limit of each Demo session remain unchanged.

๐ŸŽž๏ธ Rendering and Core Library Stability

  • Fixed Vulkan initialization on older Intel-based Macs and legacy Mac GPUs.
  • Updated the bundled native rendering libraries.
  • Retained the FFmpeg 8.1.3 decoding and streaming improvements introduced with v3.1.0.
  • Improved frame generation behavior and diagnostics across supported rendering backends.
  • General renderer, decoder and native library stability improvements.

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Additional Improvements

  • Improved application startup behavior on Linux.
  • Improved Steam Deck and Steam Gaming Mode compatibility.
  • Improved console wake-up and discovery behavior.
  • Improved behavior when the license server is temporarily unavailable.
  • Improved handheld and keyboard focus navigation.
  • Updated platform documentation and release validation checks.
  • General bug fixes and stability improvements.

๐Ÿ› Bug Reports

If you encounter an issue, please include:

  • Operating system and version
  • GPU model and driver version
  • Rendering backend used
  • Controller model and connection type
  • Streaming resolution and settings
  • Whether Local Play, Remote Play, Steam or a third-party launcher was used
  • Log files if possible
