# PXPlay 1.7.0 – Windows Pre-Beta & Pre-Beta macOS Early Access

🚧 Early Access / Pre-Beta Release

This release combines the existing macOS early access build (v1.6.3) with a new pre-beta version for Windows (v1.7.0).

Both builds are intended for testing and feedback only. While they already work quite well, some features may still change or be refined before the final stable releases.


🍎 macOS Early Access (v1.6.3)

The macOS version did not change and remains the same early access beta previously released.

It introduces a new Metal-based rendering engine and a refreshed macOS UI, and supports Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.

🪟 Windows Pre-Beta (v1.7.0)

This is the first pre-beta release of PXPlay for Windows v1.7.0 and introduces a completely new video rendering engine.

While already stable for most use cases, this is still a pre-beta build, and feedback is highly appreciated.

🖥️ New D3D11 Rendering Engine (Default)

  • Brand-new D3D11-based rendering backend
  • Significantly improved compatibility, especially for older Windows devices
  • Zero-copy GPU rendering for peak performance (GPU-only processing)
  • D3D11 is now the default rendering engine on Windows

🔍 Spatial Upscaling Support (2K / 4K)

  • Spatial upscaling via FSR 1.0
  • Noticeable improvement in sharpness and video quality, especially on larger displays
  • Adjustable sharpness value (default = maximum sharpness)

🌈 HDR & Tone Mapping

  • Native HDR output support
  • HDR tone mapping for displays without native HDR capability

⚙️ Vulkan Rendering Pipelines (Optional)

  • Both Vulkan pipelines also support upscaling
  • Optional high-quality post-processing filters:
    • Debanding
    • Clarity boost
  • "High Quality" video enhancement mode available (previously known as Rendering Preset)

🎨 Updated UI

  • UI refinements and improvements
  • Dark Mode support added

🔧 Additional Changes (All Platforms)

  • Improved license key validation
  • Rendering error messages refined
  • Various rendering fixes and refinements
