This is a preview of what's to come. These changes have not yet been fully tested and no guarantee is provided. Be cautious using this build against your production notebooks. But if you're curious and willing to give it a try, please send feedback by opening a ticket. Thanks!

What's New in OneMore 8.0.0-beta

This is a major update that changes how OneMore searches your notebooks and keeps track of hashtags, favorites, saved window layouts, and pages in My Reading List. It makes these features more reliable, but it also changes your data, so please read the warning below before installing.

⚠️ Read before installing

On first launch, this beta rebuilds your hashtag list, builds a search index for selected notebooks, and updates how favorites, layouts, and My Reading List are stored. This changes your OneMore.db file automatically.

Important:

  • 8.0.0-beta can't read 7.5.0 data as-is. It upgrades your data immediately.
  • Going back to 7.5.0 causes problems unless you restore your backup first. Hashtags can get out of sync, some pages may get duplicate hashtags, and some changes may fail to save.
  • To roll back safely, replace OneMore.db with your backup copy before opening 7.5.0.
  • Favorites and layouts can be exported from 7.5.0 and imported into 8.0.0-beta (and back), so export them first as an extra safety net.

This is a beta. Don't install it on a computer where your OneMore data matters. Try it on a copy of your notebooks or on a fresh installation.

By installing, you confirm you've read this warning.

What to expect after upgrading

  • Hashtags may take a while to appear in search. OneMore rebuilds the hashtag list in the background. Larger notebook collections take longer.
  • Your notebook selections are kept.
  • Favorites and layouts upgrade automatically and fix themselves within a few minutes.

Improvements you'll notice

  • Favorites, saved layouts, and hashtag searches keep working after you close and reopen notebooks, or after pages are moved, renamed, or re-dated. OneMore now finds pages by their title, date, location, and OneNote's permanent page link.
  • OneMore no longer adds hidden markers to your pages.
  • Restoring a layout tells you which windows it couldn't restore and why.
  • Short outages are forgiven. If a page is temporarily unavailable (its notebook is closed or still loading), OneMore waits six hours before giving up. A favorite will say its notebook isn't available, then work again once the page returns. If the page is truly gone, the favorite will say so. OneMore never deletes your favorites automatically.

New: Full text search index (optional)

OneMore can keep a search index of your notebooks on your computer, so searches return results almost instantly, even across all notebooks. It's off by default.

  • Turn it on during installation, or later in Settings > Search Index.
  • The index builds gradually in the background.
  • To build it immediately, click Build the index now in Settings > Search Index. This usually takes a few minutes.

Known limitations

  • Pages in locked sections are skipped.
  • Identical copies of a page in the same section can't always be told apart.
  • Don't switch back to an older version without first restoring your old database.
