This is a preview of what's to come. These changes have not yet been fully tested and no guarantee is provided. Be cautious using this build against your production notebooks. But if you're curious and willing to give it a try, please send feedback by opening a ticket. Thanks!

⚠️ BREAKING CHANGE IN OneMore 8.0.0-beta: READ BEFORE INSTALLING ⚠️

On first launch, this beta rebuilds the hashtag catalog entirely and upgrades the data models for favorites and window layouts. Your existing OneMore.db will be modified automatically. Back it up first.

BACK UP YOUR DATABASE (OneMore.db) BEFORE INSTALLING. NO EXCEPTIONS.

  • 8.0.0-beta will NOT work with your 7.5.0 data. It immediately upgrades your data with this beta.
  • 7.5.0 will NOT work correctly with data from 8.0.0-beta. After upgrading, rolling back to 7.5.0 will leave hashtags out of sync. Edited pages can get duplicate hashtag entries, and some writes may fail.
  • To roll back safely, restore OneMore.db by overwriting it with your backup copy before launching 7.5.0.

Exported favorites and window layouts are compatible between 7.5.0 and 8.0.0-beta. Export them from 7.5.0 before upgrading as a fallback. If you skip the backup, you risk permanent data loss of favorites and layouts.

Do not install this beta on a production system or anywhere your OneMore data matters. Test only with a copy of your OneMore.db or on a fresh installation.

To back up: Close OneNote completely, then copy C:\users\<user>\AppData\Local\OneMore\OneMore.db to a safe location.

By installing this beta, you acknowledge that you have read this warning and have backed up OneMore.db.

Hashtags, Favorites, Layouts, and Page Identity

After upgrading, expect a one-time rebuild of hashtags. Your hashtag catalog is cleared and rebuilt in the background, so tags may be missing from search until it finishes. Large collections take longer. Your notebook choices are kept. Favorites and layouts upgrade in place and repair themselves over the first few minutes.

Your references now survive OneNote closing and reopening notebooks. Favorites, saved layouts and hashtag search no longer break when a notebook is reopened or a page is moved, renamed, or has its date edited. OneMore finds pages by their title, date, location and OneNote's persistent page link, and no longer writes hidden markers into your pages. Restoring a layout now tells you which windows it couldn't restore, and why. A light background check runs every couple of minutes and only reads the notebook outline.

The 6-hour grace period - If OneMore can't find a page, because its notebook is closed, still loading, or the page was deleted, it remembers the page for six hours. Meanwhile a favorite says its notebook isn't available and works again when the page returns. After that it says the page no longer exists. Favorites are never deleted for you.

Limits: pages in locked sections are skipped, identical copies of a page in a section can't always be told apart, and you shouldn't switch back to an older version afterwards.
