Important
macOS first launch (no code signing yet). After dragging StemDeck to Applications, clear the Gatekeeper quarantine flag or macOS will say the app is damaged:
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/StemDeck.app
Optional: start from a clean slate. To reproduce a true first-run experience, open each path in Finder via the Go menu, then Go to Folder (Shift+Cmd+G), and move the folders to Trash:
~/Library/Application Support/StemDeck~/Library/WebKit/app.stemdeck.desktop~/Library/Caches/stemdeck~/Library/Caches/app.stemdeck.desktop
You can also delete ~/Library/Preferences/app.stemdeck.desktop.plist the same way. This is optional; the app will work without it.
What's new in 0.11.0
A reliability release: your library now tells you when a track has gone missing instead of pretending it hasn't, reporting a failure actually opens the report instead of a file browser, and more of the links you'd actually paste from YouTube work.
StemDeck is still alpha. A leading 0. means no stability promise.
Your library tells you when a track goes missing
- A track whose files were deleted or moved now says so. A yellow "Track unavailable" warning replaces the old silent grey dot, on both desktop and mobile - mobile had no detection for this at all before. (#380)
- Click it and it fixes itself, for anything imported from a URL: the same one-click restore the desktop "Sync" button already had, now available right on the track instead of buried in Settings. A local upload can't be rebuilt this way (the original file isn't kept after processing), so it points you at re-uploading instead.
- It's checked on disk, not guessed. The library used to infer "gone" only from a 404 or a track disappearing off the list entirely - which missed the common case of the folder being deleted while the app still thought the job was fine.
Reporting a failure actually reports it
- "Report on GitHub" opened a file browser instead of GitHub, on Windows. The pre-filled report URL could run past 2000 characters with a long error, and Windows silently opens a blank folder window past that point instead of erroring. Fixed at the root: the report now fills in as much of the trace as safely fits directly into the form (keeping the actual error line, not the middle of a long log), and only asks you to paste the rest from your clipboard when it doesn't fully fit. (#381)
- A second "Report on Discord" button sits next to it, for a quicker back-and-forth than a public issue.
- The report carries the full backend traceback now, not just a one-line summary of the exception. (#384)
- An opt-in "Include recent logs" button pulls in the surrounding application/backend/setup log window around the failure, for the cases where the per-job detail alone doesn't explain what happened.
- Nothing identifying goes into a public report. Your home directory, any track's source URL, and any IP address on your network are stripped before a traceback or log ever leaves the app - closing a gap where a raw log could have carried the YouTube link for every track you'd imported recently, not just the one that failed. (#385, #386)
Fixes
- Livestream/premiere links, embed links, and the privacy-enhanced YouTube domain now import.
youtube.com/live/<id>,youtube.com/embed/<id>, andyoutube-nocookie.comwere all silently rejected before - the first two matter most for concert and DJ-set recordings. (#382) - The max track length is 60 minutes, not 20. The limit was hard-capped in the Settings API regardless of what you set it to. Full albums and long sets now fit. (#383)
Notes on the beat detection model
Unchanged, repeated here for anyone upgrading from an older release:
- The first time you use the click track, StemDeck downloads a 77 MB beat-detection model (MIT licensed, code and weights). It is cached alongside the Demucs models, so this happens once.
- If that download is unavailable, for example on a machine with no internet, detection falls back to the classic librosa tracker automatically. The click still works; it is just more likely to pick half or double tempo on fast material, which
/2andx2correct. - Known limitation: tracks whose time signature changes bar to bar, such as odd-time progressive material, get a usable steady pulse but the bar accents will not follow the written meter. No current beat tracker handles that automatically. The grid editor is the way to fix it by hand.
- Tracks with no drums fall back to detecting on the full mix and are less reliable.
