Highlights
- One-line install scripts for client and server —
curl | shon Linux/macOS andirm | iexon Windows - Configure via environment variables — no config file required for Docker and scripted deployments
New Features
One-line install scripts (#9)
Install the client or server in one command:
# Linux / macOS
curl -fsSL https://ffmpeg-over-ip.com/install-client.sh | sh
curl -fsSL https://ffmpeg-over-ip.com/install-server.sh | sh# Windows
irm https://ffmpeg-over-ip.com/install-client.ps1 | iex
irm https://ffmpeg-over-ip.com/install-server.ps1 | iexThe scripts download the latest release into the current directory, prompt interactively for address and authSecret, and generate ffmpeg-over-ip.<role>.jsonc. macOS quarantine and Windows MOTW attributes are
stripped automatically. Re-runs are idempotent — already-installed binaries and existing config files are skipped (set FOIP_FORCE=1 to re-download).
Environment variable configuration (#13)
Both client and server can now be configured entirely via environment variables — no config file needed:
| Variable | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|
FFMPEG_OVER_IP_{CLIENT,SERVER}_ADDRESS
| Yes | Address to connect to / listen on |
FFMPEG_OVER_IP_{CLIENT,SERVER}_AUTH_SECRET
| Yes | HMAC auth secret |
FFMPEG_OVER_IP_{CLIENT,SERVER}_LOG
| No | stdout, stderr, or file path
|
FFMPEG_OVER_IP_SERVER_DEBUG
| No | true/1/yes/y to log arg rewrites
|
When both _ADDRESS and _AUTH_SECRET are set (and no _CONFIG env var or --config flag is in play), config is read entirely from env vars. Useful for Docker:
docker run \
-e FFMPEG_OVER_IP_CLIENT_ADDRESS=192.168.1.100:5050 \
-e FFMPEG_OVER_IP_CLIENT_AUTH_SECRET=your-secret \
-v ./ffmpeg-over-ip-client:/usr/bin/ffmpeg \
your-imageNote: rewrites still requires a config file.
UX
- Install script prompts now show
[default=5050]instead of[5050]so the default-on-Enter value is unambiguous
Compatibility
Fully backwards-compatible — existing config file deployments work without changes. The new env var mode is opt-in.
