The short version

Automations can now set the agent's model and effort for each run. In the automation editor, open Advanced and fill in Extra agent arguments (or use --extra-agent-args with orca automations create and edit), for example -model haiku --effort high. This works today for Claude, Codex, Grok and CodeBuddy (model and effort), Cursor (model, which carries its effort) and OMP (model), and support for more agents is coming soon. Each run starts a fresh session, and your other automations keep the host's defaults. Separately, scheduled runs in an existing workspace on an Orca server now hand the task to agents that read it after they start, such as Aider, Goose and Amp, instead of leaving them idle.
SSH hosts now run a managed Orca server. Orca ships its own runtime and sets it up when you connect, so connections no longer fail because a host has the wrong Node version or no build tools. A host with no open terminals switches on its next connect and brings its projects, folders and open editor tabs along. A host with open terminals keeps working as before and offers Move to a managed Orca server, which restarts those terminals. A host that can't run it keeps its current connection, and Settings → SSH Hosts says why. You can see, update, roll back, Recover or Forget each server in Settings → Managed servers.
Native chat (experimental): If you turned on Chat UI with chat as your default view, supported agents now open in the structured chat by default. If Terminal was your default, new agent tabs stay in the terminal, and a one-time tip explains the change and lets you turn chat mode on. You can move a conversation between chat and a terminal from the tab's right-click menu or from Agent Session History (Resume in New CLI / Resume in New Native Chat).
More in native chat: Recent versions of OpenCode (including 2.x), Pi and OMP open as structured chats on this computer. Agents can draw charts, diagrams and mockups right inside a reply, on desktop and phone (switch it off under Settings → Chat → Inline visuals). Cmd/Ctrl+F searches a chat, you can quote part of a reply with Add to chat, Up/Down recalls every prompt you sent, number keys answer an agent's questions, and long messages and runs of tool calls fold into one row. The model picker no longer waits for the agent to start, Codex and Pi say they're signed out before you send, and a reply Orca had to cut off says why and offers Continue. Grok shows its subagents, and Grok, OpenCode and OMP can /compact.
SSH and remote terminals: Keys you type during a network outage arrive exactly once and in order, scrollback and pane size survive a reconnect, and open tabs reattach after a managed server update. Shell startup files that print text, folders with tens of thousands of entries and 64-bit ARM Linux servers no longer break or drop the connection. Files, browser tabs, links and drag-and-drop stay on the machine they belong to when two machines share a path. orca serve now loads its SSH hosts, and quitting a window on a serving machine no longer stops the server.
Phone: A browser tab opened on the phone loads while the desktop is minimized or in its screen saver, chat visuals and subagents show in the phone's native chat, and videos and music files play in previews.
Workspaces and editing: You can attach several pull requests, merge requests and tasks to one workspace. Hovering a tab shows its full title with icon and program, Force Delete can remember Always force delete, and Continue in New Session is now Hand Off to Another Agent. Markdown shows GitHub-style callouts such as > [!NOTE], PDFs zoom with pinch and Cmd/Ctrl+=/-, and files dragged in from Finder or File Explorer land in the exact pane, folder or editor you drop them on.
Also: The usage meters in the status bar now default to a shorter Compact view unless you chose one (Detailed is still available), Stage All stages every change even when the list is capped at 1,000, and Orca detects the GitHub CLI even when a gh launcher hangs.

Known issues

The orca command on SSH hosts: By default, orca commands run on an SSH host reach only that host's own terminals and orchestration messages. To let agents there create worktrees, open terminals or dispatch work through orca, turn on Allow this host's orca CLI to control Orca for that host (Settings → SSH Hosts → edit the host → Advanced Connection) (#26483).

Downgrading to v1.4.223: Terminals started in v1.4.224 can't be reached from v1.4.223 until you update again. Extra pull requests, merge requests and tasks you attached to a folder workspace are removed. If Chat UI was on, it may be off after you update again; turn it back on in Settings → Experimental. SSH hosts that moved to a managed server work over the old connection in v1.4.223; if you add or remove projects there, the host shows "Changed on an older Orca" after you update and offers Move the new projects. Orca still refuses to install versions older than v1.4.214 from its version picker. To go back to one of those, run orca profile state rollback --latest-json with Orca closed, then install the old version by hand (#23262).

Terminals after updating: This version starts a new terminal background service for new terminals. Terminals that were already open keep running on the previous one, so changes in this release apply only to terminals opened after the update.

Native chats from v1.4.217 or older: If you used native chat (experimental) on v1.4.217 or older and update straight to v1.4.224, your earlier native chats won't appear. Their files stay on disk (#26038).

Relaunching from shell history: When an agent's launch command is long or spans several lines, the shell history holds a short one-time line instead, so pressing up-arrow and Enter does not start the agent again (#23962).

Workspaces created from the phone: Creating a workspace from an issue, pull request or Linear item with an agent on the phone still moves the desktop to that workspace (#26025).

Windows on ARM: The ARM64 package ships an x64 orca.exe command-line tool. Windows 11 on ARM runs it under emulation. Windows 10 on ARM can't run it, so the orca command does not work there (#24094).

OpenCode 2: If you update from v1.4.219 or earlier, OpenCode 2 panes that were already running may show no status until you restart OpenCode in them. If you downgrade Orca after updating, duplicate OpenCode status plugins are left behind. After opencode run exits, its pane can keep showing "Done"; a fix is pending in #24472.

Claude folder trust: Folder pre-trust is on by default (Settings → Agents → "Trust the folder when Orca starts an agent"). On Alpine WSL, Orca can't copy the file permissions it needs, so Claude shows its own trust prompt instead (#23744).
