Slopsmith 0.2.9-beta.2
The second beta of the 0.2.9 line. beta.1 landed the big architecture work
(sandboxed plugins, the built-in tuner, the new player); beta.2 is a focused
round of fixes and polish on top of it — plus a Guitar Pro import overhaul, a
fix for transpose on Apple Silicon Macs, and a wave of plugin updates.
Still a pre-release: stable enough for daily use, but please keep the bug
reports coming.
Slopsmith is a free, open-source music notation viewer with full-band support
and an extensive plugin system.
Highlights
• Guitar Pro import, rebuilt. GP5 / GPX imports now recover notes that were
previously dropped and bring across far more playing techniques. GP8 import
gets correct string order, proper bass naming, percussion decoding, and
pulls embedded audio whether it's OGG or MP3.
• Transpose works on Apple Silicon. Retune now ships a Rubber Band-capable
ffmpeg, so pitch-shifting a song no longer fails on M-series Macs.
• Amp tones load everywhere. The bundled NAM Rig Builder tone packs now load
correctly on Linux and Windows (a VST naming bug previously stopped them).
• 3D Highway gets prettier and faster. Live sustained-note glow that brightens
with how hard you're playing, a depth / render-order overhaul, per-note fret
labels, and a configurable floor for the automatic performance scaler.
• Section Practice, tidied. The practice bar is now a compact 🎯 pill with a
popover, and it no longer interferes with other plugins' buttons.
• Tutorial videos play again. Embedded videos load correctly behind the
security frame-guard.
Plugins
A large batch of bundled plugins were updated for beta.2:
• Live note detection (notedetect): stays armed across song changes, powers
the new sustain glow, and gains a timing-free, chart-aware verify API.
• Step Mode: play-the-note-to-advance is fixed — no more getting stuck on a
note that was actually played.
• Editor: full Guitar Pro 8 import overhaul (unified create, drums, stems,
embedded-audio sync).
• Stems: pitch-preserving speed — the speed slider no longer detunes the mix.
• Built-in Tuner (OmikronApex): mounts into the refreshed player and gains a
cleaner asset / audio bridge.
• SlopScale (community): verifier-backed scoring, an end-of-run results
screen, and a split Play / Pause / Stop transport.
• Many plugins (fretboard, metronome, MIDI, NAM tone, tones, and more) were
fixed so their toolbar buttons sit correctly in the updated player layout.
Audio & library fixes
• Mixer: the song-volume control no longer loses its handler when re-registered.
• Stem splitting now works for sloppaks whose mix isn't named full.ogg.
• Updated bundled ffmpeg binaries.
Beta notes
This is a beta — expect rough edges and please report anything odd. If you're
coming from beta.1, plugin sandboxing and the new player layout are unchanged;
this build is mostly fixes plus the import and transpose improvements above.
