Bluetooth updates work now. They never did. v1.7.2 introduced them, v1.7.3 fixed the reboot, and I still had never seen one finish, which I put down to my PC's Bluetooth being broken. My PC's Bluetooth is broken. It was also not the problem. The board was subtracting two clock readings taken a few milliseconds apart in the wrong order, so its "nothing has arrived for 20 seconds" alarm went off about 50 days early, in the same instant it told the phone it was ready. Every Bluetooth update ever attempted on a real board died on that one line before the first byte.
Tested from a phone this time, three times, start to finish: the same 1.6 MB that first crawled through in five and a half minutes now lands in under a minute, because the board asks the phone for bigger radio packets and shorter gaps between them once the transfer starts.
Getting this version: from v1.7.3, UPDATE OVER WIFI works. Bluetooth from v1.7.3 does not, for the reason above. From anything older, or if you'd rather, the USB flasher.
Squachy lost a little weight
A few outfits made him look like he had four arms whenever he raised two. His torso had a light stripe down each side that only his hanging arms were covering, so every raised-arm pose uncovered a second, paler pair. The stripes are gone, and while I was there the torso came in from 30 to 22 wide, which suits him. Suits, coats and belts follow the new shape.
Hold NEARBY
Press and hold the NEARBY headline on the main screen and the closest device's card opens straight away, no trip through the log.
The Bluetooth page
The update page at squachwatch.com/update now says out loud when your computer's Bluetooth is off or broken, instead of quietly reporting "no board chosen" under the button. It also notes that Brave switches website Bluetooth off. Bluetooth stays marked beta until more phones and computers have been through it.
Failure messages on the board and the page used to end "nothing was changed". That was half true: an interrupted install does empty the spare slot, so SWITCH TO disappears until the next update refills it. They now say what is actually true: your current version is untouched.
The actually-useful part
- Fixed: Bluetooth updates failed the instant they started, on every board, in every version that had them
- Fixed: outfits that showed a second pair of arms in raised-arm poses
- Changed: Bluetooth updates transfer several times faster
- Changed: Squachy's torso is slimmer, on every outfit
- Changed: the Bluetooth update page explains a missing adapter, an empty list, and Brave
- Changed: failure messages say "your current version is untouched" instead of "nothing was changed"
- Added: press and hold NEARBY to open the closest device
