Manage what you've muted, and the rain got a lot louder
You can see and undo your ignore list now. v1.5.6 let you mute a device but gave you no way to find it again. Settings has an IGNORED row showing how many devices are muted; open it for the list, each with its own REMOVE button and a running n / 64 count.
Only the REMOVE button is tappable — the rest of a row does nothing, so a stray tap while scrolling can't quietly un-mute something you deliberately muted.
MATRIX RAIN is now DIGITAL RAIN, and it does a great deal more than change name:
- Heads burn white-hot and decay into their colour, instead of the head simply being the colour
- Colour is rolled per drop, so the old fixed pink/cyan/green stripe pattern — which never changed for the life of a boot — is gone. Four hues now, including violet
- Drops shimmer: a couple of characters per column flicker to new glyphs each frame
- Rare surge drops burn white three cells deep, run longest and fall fastest
- Wind bends whole drops into an S-curve, with near ones leaning further than far ones
- Lightning flares the field white every 14–32 seconds
- Drops splash when they hit the floor, instead of just ceasing to exist
- Characters occasionally break loose, grow and fade as they drift upward
All of that runs at 17.9 fps against the 17.5 fps it managed before — measured on hardware, not estimated.
Two pieces of text that had been quietly drawing behind Squachy for a long time are gone. Both were centred in the band, which is exactly where he stands, and he draws after the background — so neither had ever really been visible.
The starfield tunnel now rides the warp. When the stars streak, the rings scroll and rotate faster with them, up to about 3.7×, so a burst accelerates the whole scene rather than the stars racing past a tube that carries on at its own pace.
Squachy's CHROME WING is rebuilt from the flying toasters' own wing routine — the same curved lobe, blunt tip and two-tone shading, in a wider chord. The wings rest, then break into a short burst of three beats every few seconds, both together.
Lifetime per-type counts are now kept, permanently and separately from the live counts that decay as detections go stale. The diary shows your MOST CAUGHT type. Nothing rewards them yet — the history just needs to exist before anything can.
The actually-useful part
- Added: IGNORED DEVICES screen, reached from Settings, with per-device removal
- Added: lifetime per-type detection counts, and a MOST CAUGHT diary row
- Changed: MATRIX RAIN renamed DIGITAL RAIN and substantially rebuilt
- Changed: the starfield tunnel accelerates with the warp
- Changed: CHROME WING now uses the toasters' wing geometry, and flaps
- Fixed: a stack buffer overflow in the wing renderer wrote three coordinates past the end of its array, drawing stray white lines off every wing — the flock's included
- Fixed: mirrored wings shaded on the wrong edge, so one of a pair looked upside down
- Fixed: catching the gold toaster was far too easy to do by accident
- Removed: two hidden glitch-message overlays that only ever drew behind Squachy
