Major: Native high-fidelity audio output (Experimental)
Lokal now has a native audio output path for desktop playback, with direct control over output precision, sample rate, and output device.
On Windows, you can now enable WASAPI Exclusive Mode. When enabled, Lokal takes exclusive ownership of the selected audio device and bypasses the Windows shared audio mixer, avoiding automatic system-level format/rate conversion. Exclusive mode is opt-in and automatically falls back to shared output when the device cannot be opened exclusively.
Improved audio controls
- Added native 16-bit PCM and 32-bit float output modes.
- Added output-device selection for native playback.
- Added sample-rate validation and reporting.
- Added exclusive-output status and fallback warnings.
- Native output now releases Chromium's audio device while exclusive mode is active, then restores it correctly afterward.
Playlist & Download Improvements
- Fixed playlist downloads that could finish successfully but fail to become properly associated with the library.
- Downloaded tracks now retain the correct playlist metadata when replacing ghost tracks.
- Improved matching between downloaded files and playlist entries.
- Prevented duplicate playlist entries when downloaded tracks replace their streamed versions.
- Download failures during the library/indexing stage are now reported instead of being shown as successfully saved.
Duplicate Library Cleanup
- Improved duplicate-track merging so removed audio files cannot simply reappear during a library rescan.
- Desktop duplicate files are moved to the system Trash during cleanup.
- Added safer handling for failed file moves, missing files, symlinks, and protected/shared audio files.
Playlist UI
- Moved playlist search into its own row while keeping Play All, Shuffle, Share and the other primary controls together.
- Various playlist/download state and metadata consistency fixes.
Windows / Build
- Fixed native audio compilation with newer Windows SDK / Visual Studio toolchains.
- Updated the native N-API bridge for compatibility with current Node/Electron builds.
The headline feature is the new native output + Windows WASAPI Exclusive Mode: Lokal can now give users explicit control over the playback path instead of relying entirely on Chromium and the Windows shared mixer.
