ScreenTinker v2.0.0-alpha3
One fix, and it is the one that makes the previous two releases reach a player at all.
Fixed — a BrightSign player's launcher could never be updated
The server package installs onto the player and replaces the whole server tree. The small launcher
that boots it sits beside that tree, and the installer updated it by copying the new copy up itself.
On real hardware that copy silently did nothing. The package installed, the server ran, the version
number changed — and the launcher stayed exactly as it was when the player was first set up. The
only record of the failure went somewhere unreachable from the device, so nothing anywhere said so.
⚠️ Every launcher fix so far was affected, including the 24-hour update check added in
2.0.0-alpha2, which exists precisely so a running player does not need someone to power-cycle it.
Until this release, that check could not have arrived on any player in the field.
The launcher now travels at the top level of the package and is installed by the same mechanism that
places its other 9,630 files. A package built before this change cannot update a launcher, and the
install log now says so rather than leaving no trace.
If you have a player on 2.0.0-alpha0, alpha1 or alpha2, it needs one more manual reboot to take
this release. After that its launcher updates with every package, and the 24-hour check takes over.
Known limits
Unchanged from 2.0.0-alpha0 — read-only, two tiers, no content/schedules/widgets/layouts across a
link, and both sides on 2.0.0 or newer. See that entry.
